CCV/missfire issues m62
Question, I'm pretty sure I have a vac leak on my OSV on my 97 M62, seeing as i have the gurgle sound coming from the dipstick and some white smoke from the exhaust.
I found a good link on a DIY (see below scrolling to the bottom, including even a video) http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/01/31/65 However I noticed that comparing the below pic to my car, the number 2 line is missing on mine (no clam either for that matter). ![]() What is supposed to go there?? Thanks Last edited by Reuvers; 11-15-2012 at 09:06 AM. |

#2 line goes into the brake booster compartment under the cabin air filter. From there it goes to the left rear wheel well. Above the wheel well liner are all of the fuel tank vapor/emission components that we here in the US are required to have.
For some reason your emission requirements in Europe aren't as tight as ours so you don't have these components. (or maybe the previous owner removed them??) That port should be blocked off on your engine so its not sucking in air. I have seen this part called the OSV many times, but it is really the CCV, the OSV is inside the engine on the drivers side behind the main cam chain.

thanks for the reply Jimlev
seeing as the car was MOT'd 2 months ago and passed i assume i can just block it off with a piece of hose? and in the link the video shows how to just replace the leaking valve on the ccv, so that you don't have to remove the torx bolts. I'm guessing that would be enough for me to do as well? Last edited by Reuvers; 11-13-2012 at 07:46 AM. |

Thats cheating but yes. Its a $90 part you need to buy because a $5 peice of rubber inside it fails.

took the cap off this morning and rubber gasket was torn in at least 2 places. Ordered a new one from stealers which should be in tomorrow. Let you lot know what the outcome is.
However seeing the tears i'm pretty sure this will cure the idling and missfire issues |

First of excuse the long post, but been dealing with this for too long
Replaced the cap today. The old one was torn in 2 places as you can see ![]() However, this did not solve my issues. Furthermore the dipstick is still making the gurgling sound. WHY??? I'll quickly describe all the issues and what I have done so far as soon as I start the car I get the following codes P0300 P0301 P0302 P0303 P0304 I have no vac leaks I have swapped coils but cylinders 1-4 still missfire new rocker cover gaskets (think thats the one...) new bosch plugs cleaned ICV obviously replaced CCV and last week I got the P0340 code for camshaft sensor. I replaced this with an OEM BMW part. I furthermore did a Freeze Frame with my scanner but honestly don't know what that function even does. Anyhow here is my result ![]() what does this mean? Btw I erased the P0340 code after making the freeze frame And lastly I checked if my cats were ratling and added a video below of what I believe is the sound you don't want to hear. Correct? ![]() Question concerning the cats; I read people are running converters such as magnaflow; but how are you mounting these? The OEM cats have the ports off to one side and the connecting pipe comes to it with a bend. I dont see how I can place a straight converter?? Any light on this? anyone that can at least confirm that the noise on the video is indeed the honeycomb that came loose in the cats?

Well my cats were really bad..... Car wouldn't stay running and the sound that you got sounds worse than what mine did! I took mine to a friend at a muffler shop and he did the backflow test to confirm. After getting the $1500 estimate from a BMW mom and pop shop and more $$ from the dealer, I just cut the stupid things off and ran a straight pipe and could not believe the stuff that was coming out of them when I dumped them out!! Weird. Looked like pieces of petrified wood... Now I had already done a resonator delete so as you can imagine, It sounds like I am driving a drag car or one of those squatting 4x4's.
