DVD - IN - Motion

Installed the software upgrade for DVD in Motion this morning on our new 2010 X5 D. Works great, easy install, less than 3 minutes, and kids loving watching from the back seat. In the options menu for the DVD is a zoom function that will fill the complete screen. Nice with no hardware requirements.

Can't you just code the idrive to have dvd in motion?

Yes you can. But in wondering if the DVD route might be more convenient since if after the coding is done and your car is serviced and they reset your software for some reason you have to code it again. Not sure of on DVD it is permanent or you need to install again as well.

You can do this yourself if you know how to code.

With the DVD, if I put it in after I program the vehicle, it will restore to normal. For individuals who want it to look normal for BMW service. Then put in again and it will restore. I saw some coding where you could edit the file but it do not own the equipment to do the file and reprogram. DVD in motion was just to easy

Looks easy but its pricey for a file you download. Wonder if we should group buy some

They did a group buy last Christmas and I think the price was $150. I guess It is a little pricy but much cheaper than anything I saw in the BMW dealership. I have installed lots of hardware in my F150 to get the same function with a lot more cost $800 and much more sweat. No kidding. Less than 3 min install. Programmers demand a premium these days

Oh, by the way, wife wanted it. Do I need to say anymore. Plus I just found out in NV no smog test on the X5D. So I just saved $55

I had my car coded the other day and I love it! This guy did it for free, too bad I don't have DVD on my car. So many things you can do with coding for convenience that I find it is more of a "bargain" to buy a cable and code your car.

There is also a BMW forum dedicated to coding that blue dragon posted a link to above. If you are uncomfortable coding your car, there are people out there that may do it for free or charge you around $100 for the coding.

This is my issue. I am never comfortable messing with electronics in a new BMW. I'm also not comfortable with a strange person who will not take any responsibility for his services free or not if the car becomes toast for whatever reasons.

Many have used this upgrade with NO issues. To each his own

Do you not comprehend what DVD in motion means? Do you need a 100 word essay explaining the technology behind it? Do you need someone to take you by the hand to navigate Google?

Go on their website and figure it out. They tell you all about it on there. You're a big boy, I'm sure. It's not difficult.

You asked how to get it and he told you how. You got your answer, sheesh. Do you expect him to be an SME on this?

I did not ask him how he "got" this nor how he "found" it. I ask where he acquired it, and WHY it is VIN specific.

I expected "XYZ company, they burn a disc using your VIN" or "an FSC code is needed"

It is moronic to say "I got DVD in motion.... google search for more info". Spam at best...but at least spam is trying to sell something.
