2011 LCI without cd changer in glovebox - why no extra space ?

I have an early build 2011 X5 V8 (april 29 2010 build)
I don't have the cd changer in the glovebox, so they have place a plastic 'wall' there instead of giving us the space occupied by the CD changer

did anybody tried to reclaim that dead space ?

the glovebox is not exactly very big.. i could use the extra space
