2005 325xi dashboard illumination

During normal operation, is the dashboard illuminated when the daytime running lights are activated/on? If so what must be done to get the dashboard illuminated again properly when in the daytime running light configuration? The dashboard illuminates properly when the headlights are turned on/activated. All help concerning this matter is immensely appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The dashboard is NOT illuminated in daylight running mode, which just activates (without user control) the low-intensity halogen headlights fitted for that purpose (at least on Canadian cars with mandatory DRLs). This is with the headlight switch on "off". If you want the corner and tail lights on as well, turn the switch to first position. This also will turn on the dash illumination. The second position, of course, activates the main headlights for night driving (xenons in my case).

Why do you want to do this? If it's dark enough that you need lighting to see the dash (e.g dusk or dawn), you probably want to use your full-intensity headlights as well.
