Question Can you keep your stereo settings despite BMW?

Been searching Google and the forum for an answer, sorry if this has been around before.

On my 2007 328i with Logic7 stereo, I thought I found happiness with my settings - bass around +3, treble +2, fader -2, etc. But every time I turn on the car the settings revert - bass to a bloaty +10, treble +8, etc. Also changes radio stations - not horrible, just weird.

Any way to override these settings and just keep things the way you prefer? Thanks in advance for any 4-1-1 or link to a thread with insight

Somehow your keyfob settings are not kept in memory.

Ah so...

all this good stuff is kept in the key fob? Good to know. One of my fobs will start the car, but not lock/unlock. Time for a trip to the $tealer.

If they are CA Fobs perhaps change the battery.

If they are CA Fobs perhaps change the battery.
The Comfort Access Fobs have batteries .
You can buy the batteries at a drug store for about 2 to 3 bucks each.

It's actually stored in the vehicle but it's keyed (sorry) to the unique ID of the fob. The stored settings are called up for whichever key unlocked the car.

A key that starts but will not unlock the vehicle may have gone out of sync with the security systems of the car. Before visiting the dealer, you might want to try re-synchronizing your keys as described in that link. Be sure to have ALL keys for the vehicle on hand.

(I do not know whether that procedure affects stored preferences and presets; use at your own risk.)

EDIT: As ctuna noted, if you have CA try fresh batteries first and foremost. BMW electronics detest weak batteries.

Thanks much - I'll start with batteries and a sync. I don't have CA.

PS - I'm just a couple months new to the E92 - CA seems like a no/low-cost, no brainer that should have been included on all cars. When dipsticks disappeared from BMW engines, I swore I was done with the marque... but here I am with another - and dipstickless!

After you set your EQ it the M button on your seat and then your seat memory number that you have designated for that fob. That should save the radio settings.

D'oh! Manual sport seats. Did I buy the perfectly bad combination?

Do enjoy the memory seats on my X5 - one tap and everything including the mirrors conforms to you.

Non-CA key fobs don't have batteries, they recharge by being plugged into the dash. Only CA key fobs have batteries and they're not supposed to be plugged into the dash.

If one of your fobs locks/unlocks the car, then it is charged enough to keep your settings. Try to use only that one and see what happen. And like the man said don't try to replace the battery.

If the fobs recharge, then they must have a battery. One of my X5 fobs' rechargeable batteries died (its a 2001, so 12 years old). My wife gets the fob that still works, I get the old fashioned key now. I'm all for this technology - if the owner can replace a $2 battery for $2. You should not have to pay a dealer $150+ for a whole new fob - containing a $2 battery.

I had the same issue on my 2007 335, one fob unlocked the doors and one would not, I replaced the batteries, still the one fob would not unlock the doors with the buttons, I got near the car and the door would unlock by proximity and pulling on the handle, got in the car, put the fob in the ign slot, started the car and the fob started working again, so that must be how it gets resynced

try that

You have a CA unlike the OP.

I could only afford the car I really wanted by stripping out most options including CA. I wish most cars had less standard options, not more.

Update - This BMW "Feature" STILL Driving Me Crazy

So, a recap: I have a non-Comfort Access, Logic 7 Stereo, manual sport seats E92. Replaced the batteries in all my fobs. STILL - every time I hop in my car, radio station 106.5 comes on (which happens to be country music where I live... and I hate country music). The tone controls are always the same - bloated bass at +8, treble at +5, etc.

I've reset the tone controls about 40 times, they never keep. I removed 106.5 from the previous owner's radio presets. It STILL comes on. When driving home, I always pull into the garage, turn off the radio manually, then turn off the ignition. I swear, half the time I start the car THE RADIO IS ON.... to 106.5 country music.

Annoying to have a car with a haywire mind of its own, gets me thinking about a WRX.

Have you considered going to the dealer or a mechanic for this issue? This is clearly not normal behaviour, but it seems silly to start looking into other cars because the radio won't remember the settings.

I hear ya

Joking a bit here, need to use my emoticons. Not a big fan of dealers, especially the one that owns BMW and 60% of all the dealerships in our city. I bought the coupe used, and had one last visit on warranty. The dealer begrudgingly did an oil change, even though BMW NA allows a min of 1 per year, gratis. Apparently to make up for any "free work," they charged me $90 for "anti-vibration tape" applied to my tailight bulbs.

So, not a big fan of dealers, but maybe I'll run it by my indie shop, which does fantastic work at reasonable rates.
