Minor Smell with X5 Diesel

As reported earlier, just picked this 2012 diesel under a week. Weather has been cold in the Northeast the last couple of days. Started up and stopped for coffee on way to office. Minor burning smell from engine bay. I can't tell if it diesel fuel or engine components heating up since vehicle is new. Anyone notice this before after the first few days of ownership. I'm not worried, but just noticed this. Thanks in advance for posting a reply -- and yes, I am searching the threads.

It might be nothing, or could be bad EGR valve (which will eventually throw CEL, but car will be driveable)...

First, any new car will have burnoff smells.

Second, there is a SCR Particulate Filter that will do a burn off cycle, and this can be rather stinky. I seem to recall the first being the worst.

3rd I'd not have the EGR valve on my list....

Keep it as simple as possible...but no simpler.

Most probably burn off, which is normal. And yes it is worse in newer cars... Either that or we just get used to the smell after a while...
