The new to the US BMW X1 will arrive at BMW dealers in the fall of 2012 as a 2013 model year. Get your X1 28i with either sDrive (RWD) or xDrive (AWD) or get the US exclusive I6 N55 powered X1 35i dDrive. |

Twin Turbo?
Could anyone help...
I picked up my new X1 Xdrive XLine last weekend, specified with 1.8d engine with the 8 speed auto. My other car is a 1 series coupe with the 2.0d twin turbo engine and 6 speed auto box. I was worried that the X1 would be considerably under powered compared to the coupe but its actually quiet peppy... I popped the hood on it the other day to find the engine cover has twin turbo marked on it! Is the 1.8d engine a twin turbo? I thought it was a non turbo'd engine... Can anyone clarify this? |

The X1 18d sold since 07/2012 production has the same engine as the other 4 cylinder turbodiesels, except at the medium level of output. It uses the N47 engine which has the variable geometry turbocharger but you don't actually get a bi-turbo until the 23d version. BMW uses the "TwinPower" or whatever nomenclature more as a marketing name (like EcoBoost for Ford).
