Another tire wear question (sorry)

I realize this forum is full of repetitive tire wear quesitons but I wanted to ask about my specific situation.

I've got a 2007 328xi that I'm trying to get inspected. I know the front tires are getting old because I've driven 34,000 miles on them myself since owning the car and who knows how long they were on the car before that. I checked the wear bar on those and it looked to be below the tread indicating the tire should still pass. Dealer says that is only true on the outside/center of the tire and that it's worn more on the inside and they need to be replaced. OK, I might buy this ...
The rear tires were replaced just 15,000 miles ago with a new alignment done at that time. The dealer is saying that my tread is about half gone and will pass but they should be replaced because the wear is worse on the inside as well. After a little arguing he changed his tune to say that the wear is even but should be replaced when I do the front. After a little more arguing it's actually the center that is worn more. Needless to say I'm starting to feel like he's trying to take me for a ride.

My question is: Should the inside be wearing more quickly with my completely non agressive driving style on newly paved very smooth roads? I think that if the inside is wearing out as quickly as they say then they dialed too much camber into the alignment when they adjusted it. Furthermore my car drives straight and true with no hint of pull or funny wear.

I'm waiting to hear back from the manager but I'm more or less resigned to taking my car and going elsewhere for the inspection. I will not be paying for new rear tires just one year later. That is just insane.

The negative camber helps make the car handle like it does. All BMW's have some negative camber in the rear and as a result the inside edge will wear @ a faster rate. Some models experience faster wear in this regard. If you have non staggered setup rotate back to front and buy new for the rear. That may extend tire life but if the inside is really worn on the rears you may experience some vibration when they're mounted up front.

The wheels are tilted inwards to help with handling (negative camber), so the inside edges wear faster. The dealer is not bull-sh****g you, so you should buy this, he is looking after you. Turn the wheels to full lock and check this out for yourself.

Also rear tires wear faster than fronts as they put the power down for the car (in RWD). Even with X-drive, the rear tires carry more load due to weight transfer during acceleration. It is not unusual for rear tires to wear significantly faster than fronts.

hi i have a 2005 320 d, my two front tyres are wearing on the insind and outside, i thought i was running under pressure but i have been told its normal wear for bmw's.

Are you cornering around like a madman? If not, I'd be a little worried about a lot of outside wear.

Is it just wear? No scalloping or deformation on the outer edge?

I can confirm that on my Xdrive my winter tires (non staggered) are more worn in the rear than the fronts. I swapped front to back this year. I doubt I get a 3rd winter out of these tires. I don't drive slow around turns snow tires or not. They are wearing evenly across though.

New tires on the front and old worn ones on the back is a bad combo. Most shops will not do it because the car will oversteer at the limit and most drivers will not know how to handle it and crash. So either get 4 new tires or put the worn ones on the front but as noted above you may get noise and vibration from them. So no dealer is telling the truth.
