Oil change caused misfires? WTF?

So i did an oil change on the 6 this weekend. I got BMW oil from dealer ($7.50/quart vs $9.50 at local parts store) plus the o-rings, washer & filter. Changed with no problems. Got in the car to roll it off the ramps and it was misfiring like crazy.

I'll save you what I went through trying to figure it out and jump to the end. The oil filler cap was not quite seated properly and was leaking air/oil. So after an hour of cleaning my engine bay, clearing the codes and pulling/cleaning the skid plate, all is well again.

Bottom line be sure to get the cap on properly when adding oil.

Whew! Thought that it was something worse.......but operator error . Had me worried for a second when I saw the headline.

Good to hear it turned out OK. Interesting issue though, you don't hear that one every day.

Agreed Yorgi! That was why I thought I should get this one out there for you guys. I have changed my oil 100 times and never had an issue with any car. The cap went on and looked like it was correct, but no bueno. I'm still not sure if one of the two tabs on the cap didn't make it into its slot or if the cap was completely on but not centered properly.

Either way, save yourselves some clean-up and check the cap, especially if you get a rough idle after having it off.
