Automatic trunk opener to working
The automatic trunk opener is not working properly on our 2008 750i. When I press the button on the dash, it starts to open for a second and then closes again. Same thing when I try manually from the back of the car at the trunk. Do you know what causes this? Is it covered under the extended warranty?
Thanks! |

Do you know, Are the struts covered under the CPO warranty or do they consider them a wear item?

What happens is that when you press the trunk open button, you can hear the motor work and it lifts maybe 1/4 " and then the motor closes it down again. Anyone else have this problem?

Having recently gone through this trunk issue and read lots of threads , etc. and been successful in repairing mine - I think there are a couple of things to consider-
1. If you are still CPO, yes it is covered. 2. Search this forum for HKL - you'll find all the threads I read. 3. If the trunk opens and a) does not open all the way but continues to grind/hum away - then it is related to the hydraulic fluid b) opens a bit and then closes - could be related to the shocks OR trunk angle sensor c) opens to the full position and then slowly falls down - definitely related to the shocks d) worst case scenario - either a problem with a failing hydraulic pump or leak in the lines (both highly unlikely) Since you have an '08 - I am guessing you have the newer hydraulic lines (Black with yellow-ish text) AND the newer shocks. Probably a trunk angle sensor - reset the HKL module - open the trunk to its full upright and then power off the battery (green switch) in the right trunk panel for 30 seconds or so. Also check hydraulic fluid levels - for that you need to remove the trunk right side trim - the red liquid should be within the upper and lower spread of the "+" on the cannister. My dealer wanted to charge me $900 to fix - after researching, I ended up buying the parts online (basically, the OEM fluid) which took me about 1.5 hours start to finish to drain and refill. I could probably do it in under 45 mins next time around (hopefully there won't be one!) let us know what the dealer says.... vsapra |

Yes, it was the hydrolic fluid leaking and they replaced the strut under he CPO warranty. Cost $50 co pay.
Thanks! |

What can the problem be when the trunk occasionally fails to open fully from the button on the trunk but never fails to open fully from the button on the key fob or the dash? When my car was still under warranty, I had the dealer check into this and they claimed to have replaced and programmed everything and still couldn't fix it.
