Posted in the wrong forum, so here goes

Where do I start?!

The top would be coming up, then the windows would come up and as they do, the windows would get to a certain point, then they would roll down again. There is a service bulletin about this stating that a relay needs to be changed. I am going to leave this one alone as it is not really interfering with the car's operation.

Next this wind tunnel whistling sound was coming from the back of the car. Took it into the shop and they told me that the turbo was gone and if I were to replace it, I should replace both turbos since the other one may be going bad as well and most of the $3,000 cost was in the labor of removing then inserting the motor again. I asked if I can use the car till I think about it and they said that I can drive the car with no problems what so ever; except that it would not have the same power as it once did and I was fine with that.

I took the car to get a second opinion and when the tech was depressing the throttle, we heard an explosion and oil started gushing out of the car. He told me that the turbo blew out and that it needs to no only be changed, but that the oil now needs to be cleaned from the system as well.

We went ahead with the repairs and now the sound is gone, but the car just started leaking little drops of oil.

Lastly, I had lost my navigation DVD so I copied a friend's and was using it till I started sometimes getting the error please insert navigation DVD. I borrowed another one and made a copy, but got the same error. I even used my friend's original 2007.2 navigation DVD and that did not work either. So now I am thinking that the DVD went dead, but don't know how to check if that's the case.

The car just came off of warranty less that 5 months ago. Makes me wonder what's to come next

You paid to have the turbos replaced already? You should have called BMWNA and see if they would have helped you out with some or all of the cost of the turbos.
Put a regular DVD into the DVD drive and see if the DVD movie plays. It will only play while the car is in park.
You can always also buy the updated DVD navigation, but its like $300.00.
Good luck.

Unhappy Clarification

Someone had told me to contact my dealer and see if they would fix it based on good will, but the way BMW has been, so money hungry, I really didn't think that that was going to work. So yeah, I paid over $3,500 to change the turbos.

Are you saying that I can buy the whole DVD Navigation system for $300? I saw them on ebay for about $600.

The best thing would have been to contact BMW North America if the dealership did not want to help you. They are big with customer satisfaction, so you would have had to sound very displeased and complain. They probably would have at least helped with some of the costs.
BMW probably puts some type of security block on their DVD which makes it hard to copy, so that could be why your getting error message.
Get a regular DVD movie insert it into the DVD drive and see if the movie plays. If it plays, your drive should be fine and just the DVD possibly defective.
The $300.00 would be for the newest DVD version of the currnent maps for the DVD based navigation.
If the DVD drive turns out to be bad, try working with BMW before you spend any more money.

Will try

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to pop in a DVD movie right now and see if it works. Never used that feature before; didn't even know I had it really

Just make sure you leave the car in park. There is a safety feature that activates when you put the car in drive, the screen goes black but you can hear the audio. Unless, of course, you would have bought the bypass.......but some say that is illegal......lol

I'm in the car now, but nothing is happening. I inserted the DVD in the bottom dvd tray in the navigation and nothing. Even if I go to Entertainment, there is no option for DVD. All it says is FM AM CD AUX

OK. This is a 2008 335i Convertible. I know we got it with pretty much every single option, but this playing of DVDs, never knew I had it.

What month build is your car? I thought you had an 09. They didnt offer the playback until late 08 builds.
Try pulling the emergency brake up then re insert the DVD.

I though you said that you had DVD playback in an 06 330i

I'm thinking of taking the DVD navigation unit out and trying to clean the lens, but not sure if that would mess up anything in the car's programming. It's crazy!

So you need to burn your DVD at the slowest speeds possible.

Send your bill from your turbo to BMWNA they will honor the cost of replacement parts if under 83,000 miles. If you explain to them the sound it was making.

I'll definitely send the bill and if they pay anything on it, I will be extremely happy.

As for the DVD, I burned it at 1x. I also have the original DVD which is 2007.2 but that is not working either, which makes me think that it is probably the DVD navigation system itself.

The drive definitely spins when I insert the navigation DVD. Let me know how to test it with the door opening, car running, off, etc. and I'll give it a shot right now. Thanks

get a cd cleaner slap it in the drive then take it out and then put the dvd back in the drive leave it for 5-10 mins with the doors unlocked and keys in your pocket then when it stops put the key in and see if it reads it. Maybe your going backwards from the one you had in your car im not sure.

I actually am going back. My car had the 08 navigation and the original that I borrowed from my friend is an 2007.2 which I assume is an 07.

I downloaded several versions, 2011, 2012 and those are not working either. I am using DVR+R, should I be using the older DVD-R to burn the DVD?

I'm going to try out your suggestion right now and let you know.

Thank you very much.

I have the original DVD and since it's single layer not dual, I just figured that the single layer 4.7 GB would be more compatible.

I was burning the DVDs with ImgBurn which is recognizing the DVDs as 4x and burning them at that speed even though I selected 1x. I'm going to try a different computer and a different program.

I also have a DVD in the car with the doors closed, but unlocked and the key with me and just left it to see what happens as per your last recommendation. Will update as soon as something happens.

Where are you all downloading the latest navigation DVD? I haven't had any luck finding it.
