Fuel Pump Relay Testing
On page 160-10 in the Bentley service manual it explains to connect a fused jumper between the #30 terminal and #87 terminal. If the fuel pump runs when doing so does this mean the relay is bad or is this just a way to test the fuel pump without using the ignition switch? Seems like i dont hear the fuel pump run when using the ignition switch. Trouble shooting the cause of new fuel pump replacement not working is tough!

How many miles?
I know on my 3-series a few years ago, I had a similar issues with just over 100k in miles, so I replaced the fuel pump as preventative maintenance. That fixed my problem without having to replace the relay. If I remember correctly, the relay is fairly inexpensive, and since the expensive part (i.e. fuel pump) was being replaced as preventative, this pathway made sense for me. |
