N54 or N55?

I own a BMW 335i convertible e93. 2010
How do I know if it's has a N54 or N55 engine?is it pre-lci or lci?

2010 was pre lci. You have the n54

I say: Fire a very strongly worded letter to BMWNA demanding clear designation of which engine you have.

One of them has big lettering on the engine cover that says "TwinPower Turbo".

That's the N55, with one turbo (although it does have twin scrolls).

According to the Bentley manual, several states received SULEV version, post LCI, labeled something like N52N (California, Connecticut....). Can anyone confirm this?

Sounds right but that would be the silver version of the n52 (used in the 328i)

Take key to BMW Dealer. They can run a vehicle history report for you. When I was looking for a 335 to buy, I took numerous VIN numbers to the local dealer and they gave me details about the car itself.

Better late than never, sure, I'll confirm it.

Has a special pollution fighting radiator coating.....believe it....almighty expensive too.

Is there more lag on the single turbos? I Googled twin-scroll and it seems to be all about efficiency; still has one turbine so presumably it'll take longer to spool up

This has been debated to death, not sure there is a solid answer on lag. Pretty much any lag can be tuned out of the N54. The one thing that is a fact based on development dyno tests by Burger Motorsports is the N54 is much more adaptable to power modification then the N55. With identical tunes the N55 will always lag behind the N54 on the dyno & at the track. Why this is I don't have any idea but it might be more then just the turbo because the top horsepower N54's, 650+whp, are all after market single turbos cars.

One day I have to buy a used 335 and boost to over 400hp just for kicks.. maybe in a year or two I'll find one with a clogged intake that someone is letting go for next to nothing. Many are starting to hit 100K now

Did you check the horsepower spec? My M was off by 84 HP and my wife's 335is was off by 60 HP. They must be using some metric spec.

BMW cheats usually down on the BHP ratings for the less expensive versions. Keeps an artificial spread among the various lines.
