Premium sound Question (Silver rings?)
A few days ago I brought home our new 2012 X5 35d with Sport, Premium & Premium sound packages. I recall reading on here (or the X6 forum) that premium sound models had "silver rings" around the speakers instead of the black rings. Mine are all black and I do have an all-black interior. How can I verify if I got premium sound on this one or not? Are there additional speakers in the premium model that aren't in the standard model. Personally, the stereo isn't a big deal to me so that may explain why I didn't investigate this a bit more while picking up the truck with the sales guy.
PS - Premium sound is listed on the window sticker & the truck does have Sirius satellite so I THINK it has the premium sound but I also know that you can get Sirius without the premium sound package.

The only way to get silver rings is to option the Dirac individual sound option.

Count the number of speakers. Base model should have about 10 of them, the "upgraded" audio system should have 16. That includes 2 subwoofers below the front seats and the speakers in dashboard (the top of dashboard, covered by mesh).

There are 3 sound systems available for your vehicle, base sound, premium sound and Enhanced sound. If it says on the sticker you have premium sound, then most likely that’s what you have. The system you speak of with the silver rings is the Enhanced sound, and that is a special order system, not an option. Have fun with your new X. |

Have you checked to see if you have an equalizer? I believe the premium sound system has that capability but not the basic stock sound system.

Hey, Ndabunka, how do you like the 20" rims?!

Thanks for the "silver rings" clarification. Other threads had mixed the message of premium vs. ENHANCED (often calling the silver rings a "premium" audio system which I now understand was incorrect). It does appear that I DO have the premium system as I do have an equalizer. I also finally had a bit of time (by myself rather than lots of family in the car) to "play with things" today. I got the Homelink programmed (it was a bit more difficult than the 7-series was for whatever reason).
I LOVE the look of the 20-inch rims and LOVE the FAT BUTT effect of the 315's in the rear of my new lady. However, I am not so certain how happy I am with the "Summer Performance" run flat tires. I've never been a fan of ANY run flats and these are no exception to that rule. Being run flats with an internal support structure, they do not have much of an ability to make up for roads with poor conditions. However, they DO handle the curves...VERY, VERY well which makes me actually like them for handling @ speed (40-70MPH). However, I already arranged for a tire swap (to Continental DWS) before the final papers were signed so I am scheduled to take this back into the dealer to have them do that swp sometime this week. However, there is really no "financial" benefit to that swap so I am trying to re-structure things and have an offer to one of the members here to pick up his DWSs before swapping the Dunlop RFs and if I can complete that, I will simply pull these summer tires off and put them up on a rack in the garage until summer. That will give me the ability to have the best of both worlds. The more forgiving All-Season 20" in the winter and the stiffer performance 20" tires for the summer.

Yeah, too bad you didn't order the truck with Adaptive drive. AD definitely smooths things out in the ride quality department.

Btw ... You're not missing anything by not having enhanced / individual sound. I had it on my m3 and its mediocre at best.
Complete rip off BMW must have agreed too since they have dumped it on new models offering the B&O system as the top of the line sound option. |

Dunlop to conti DWS swap
ndabunka,
What kind of deal did you work with the dealer to swap out the Dunlops for the Conti DWS all season's? I was looking at getting a winter setup, but maybe just switching to all seasons would be the better route. |

Total power of SA752 is 825W, not 625W.

Fader +1 towards rear Treble +5 Bass +3 Surround ON NOTE: It may be a personal thing but I like hearing the stage around me rather than mostly in front. It makes me feel IN the music rather than watching a performance in front of me. 100Hz +3 200Hz +3 500Hz -2 1KHz +4 2KHz +3 5KHz +6 10KHz +8 One thing that is a bit irritating is that there is no visual representation of the volume levels I listened to the music @ on this audio system so I can't tell you if I was listening @ 40%, 50%, 75% or anything in between which makes subjective reporting a bit...um, er... difficult
