Consumer Reports Z4 Report Card
In loooking at my 06 (3.0) Z4 consumer reports gives a black mark for major Engine Repair?
Granted there is a service bulletin to replace the lifters to fix the ticking noise in the N52 engine. This same engine was used in the 3 series (E-90) in 06 and it gets a black mark too. I don't know of any other issue with this engine so I'm wondering if this is the issue consumer reports is concerned about? Transmission, Climate (A/C), Brakes, & Audio all get red marks (good) The only other issue I know of with the 06 Z4 is that the electronic steering has a defective worm gear in steering columns produced through June 06. I've got 75,000 Miles on mine & I did get the repairs mentioned above. The car runs flawlessly and I couldn't be happier with it's performance & handling. On the new Z4's consumer reports says the 4 banger (turbo) feels like a diesel at idel. (not exactly flatering) not quite sure what to make of it all!

This is my red neck knee jerk response to CR and it's lack of ability to back up their claims with emperical evidence...I stopped reading it years ago because it put a lot of great cars in a bad light...now, having said that I guess it would be interesting to see why they give it a black mark....OK, I'm done now :-)
