Buying a used X5 - Tips, 3.0 vs. 4.4, etc.
I'm going to be buying a used 2004-2006 X5 soon, probably with 75k-110k (I have a license to go to the auto auctions).
So, I have a few questions: - 3.0 vs 4.4? - things to watch out for that I can check myself before the auction? - I've seen that there are issues with the panorama roof, which I want. How do I check this out? - get it with Nav or add dynavin later? Thanks! Your help is much appreciated! |

Any of the V8s 4.4, 4.6, 4.8
I've always had the V8 (3 previous E39 540s) Personaly I love the OEM GPS. The aftermarket ones just don't look right to me. Sent from my SPH-M820-BST using Bimmer App |

depends the 3.0 is bmw's best engine, that said i only drive the 8's and I have the 3.0 for the wife. The 3.0 is less upkeep than the larger 4.4

Just bought 4.4 X5 and the valve cover gaskets were leaking. Favourite shop fixed this but cost is steep given what has to be removed to get to this. I factored most of that into price paid. Watch the hoses under the engine cover as well.

I just bought my 03 x5 at a chevy dealership for half of bluebook since they couldn't figure out the problem with the braklight/ check brake light indicator on the dash...cost to fix was $12. other problem door carrier on drivers side needs to be replaced cost $65 part on the way. pixels going out on MID unsure if I want to fix it or replace. and lower control arm bushing needs to be replaced. A one owner X5 yes a little old lady owned it.
Never owned or even ridden in a BMW before. But this will not be my last BMW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thinking about making a few "upgrades" to my X5 since it's the 3.0i .....wish it was a v8 ( I LOVE THE SOUND ) like: intake drop in filter or cai exhaust remove resonator and replace with X-pipe maybe and a tune to get rid of the lag in the throttle |

If you going to go with an aftermarket headunit, stay away from cars with DSP. Installing aftermarket unit such as a dynavin is a lot easy if the car doesn't have dsp.
