What a drive home!

Just wanted to share my experience this week -

So I'm driving home and up pops a warning - "Charging Malfunction". OK - car seems to drive still: I'll call my SA tomorrow. Then as I tap the gas (stuck in rush hour), I get an "ABS/Brake Malfunction" - something about "safe to continue driving but dont crash into anything" . Then a few hundred yards later, "Transmission Failure". The car switches on its own from Sports Drive/Steptronic shifting (which I do regularly) back to regular drive. Again, something about "safe to continue driving, but we'll do the shifting, thank you very much". OK - the next exit happens to lead to my dealership - let's pull off the highway, shall we? Then comes "Steering Malfunction" - "it's safe to continue driving but turns are gonna suck". So I call the dealership - it's 5:50 (they close at 6pm). I move to roll up the windows since the top is down so I can hear them - they don't work. Then the iDrive screen blacks out. I get a DSC icon on the dash (cant see the "you can continue safe driving but don't slide over any dishwashing soap or anything" message because the iDrive screen is dead.) Then the iDrive comes back as do the windows

OK - now I'm putting it all together - electrical system.

I make it to the dealership at 5:58 and turn in my car. Go to the rental car desk (my car is under the CPO warranty so a rental's on me) and to put icing on the cake? I left my driver's license at home. (sigh)

Tured out to be an bad alternator which was replaced.

What a wild ride - I never had the car take a complete dump while driving.

Can anyone top this?

Sounds like some ride back home after a hard day's work......

so, how many miles are on your car and I just cant believe that a bad alternator can literally trash the entire car....woah!

again, when does one have to change the alternator? at how many miles? scary

Boy, you sure know how to turn a ho-hum commute into an adventure. I can't even come close to that story. Glad you are on the road again.

Just had another day -

FTM goes off - I pull over to a gas station. NO air (zero pressure) in one tire. I try to refill - the air machine laughs at me. I have RFTs so, OK - let's drive home slowly. Ahhh... if only it worked like it says in the manual... The tire practically shreds on the way home, and I have to get towed to the tire place ($160 tow). Oh wait--- the tire place doesn't have the machine for 19" tires so... call back the tow guy and take me to tire place #2 (called them first to be sure they do 19" rims) - another $120. My sideskirt got beat to hell from the floppy tire and now I'm going to need some bodywork done.

Sigh... I think I'm gonna sell and buy a 10-speed...

Mein Auto: bmw 6 series
Hello people, got two problems which I have been told are common on 2005 bmw 6 series (E63).
1. Seat restraint waning and airbag from now where after the car wash people disconnected the socket, I tried clearing from the garage computer. but eventually comes on. : (
2. Vanos intake problem. been told its common too. my 6 has now done 103000 and now all of a sudden making knocking noise and feels like its gonna cut off while driving.
tried asking some of the so called BMW specialists all they talk is 1000s and now it has put me off even touching the car,
any suggestions fellows???
