Steering wheel leather question
Howdy. A few weeks ago, I started noticing a rough spot on my wheel. Now, there are 3 of these very rough patches. I haven't scratched the leather with anything. Any ideas?
Thanks! |

Warranty. Insist on new wheel. I've had wheels that are 10 years old look better than that!

It looks like defective leather that somehow passed quality inspection at the tannery and at BMW. Now that it looks defective it is an easy call for your dealer to replace the wheel under warranty.

That doesn't look like normal wear that would happen on a car as new as yours...unless u grip the he!! out of your wheel when u drive.

I have exactly the same condition on my steering wheel, and I too have not scratched it nor harmed it in any way.
My dealer, BMW Gallery in Norwell, MA is taking care of it, agreeing that it is a warranty issue, although no one has any idea why the situation is now appearing, about six months after being delivered. (They are positively fantastic both in sales and in service, by the way.) We are now waiting for the new wheel to arrive from Germany. Good luck having your problem addressed! |

I someone dragging a wedding ring (or other) by chance? That's the only time I've seen that--especially rings with strong (closer to right angle) edges.
I would go back and grump at the dealer--not normal unless there's a ring really gouging it. I treat my steering wheel with 1Z Lederpflege 2x a month. I'd say that's not normal. Get a new wheel--good luck! I would be in the dealer as well. I have a passenger bolster on the seat wearing too fast--so I understand where you're coming from. And the seats are treated at least 1x a month.
