Passenger door lock cylinder and trunk lock

Does anyone have a diagram or parts breakdown of the passenger side door lock mechanism, the lock cylinder on the passenger side door does not lock or unlock the door, and does not activate the central locking system, it does however roll the windows up when held in the full lock position. also can anyone tell me if the trunk key cylinder should activate the central locking system as well?

Thanks
Charles

Charles,

You don't say what your car is, but on my 98 Z3 the trunk lock does activate the central locking system.

Sorry my bad, The car is a 1999 BMW Z3, the trunk lock does operate with the central locking system, however the trunk lock does not operate the central locking syste, the passenger side door lock only operates the window up function, I believe there is a rod or other mechanism which is missing from this lock.

Thanks for any information on this.

I believe my problem is the mechanical linkage between the lock cylinder and the lock mechanism. Thanks for the idea, ill check into it as well.

I thought your English had a little accent to it Welcome to the forum! I work for people who are from Der Bildt, in Utrecht. Enjoy your "new" Z3!

I have a 2001 Z3, but the passenger-side door has no place to insert a key. When did BMW stop putting a lock cylinder in the passenger door?? When I insert my key into the driver-side door, I can occasionally spin the key with no results. Other times I can feel some resistance, and can push the lock button half-way, then no more. Is there likely to be some damage to the driver-side lock?

Jerry

With so many owners talking about issues with the Z3's passenger-side door lock, which I had noticed my 2001 lacks, I checked photos on eBay. Sure enough, the earlier Z3s have a key slot on the passenger side. None in the later models. Curious change, considering the convenience of having an external window switch.
