this is my first post, so please be gentle. i have been reading and researching the last few days and cant seem to find a write up or i just cant seem to find one. any help or link will be helpful
car: 04 745LI 98K PROBLEM 1: my car on a cold start up seems to idle up to about 1k then 30-60 seconds drops down hard to 500 to where it almost stalls. and when i put the car in reverse is seems to jump and pause when backing up. i do not recollect if it does it in drive. That the OIL SEPARATOR and EGR valves (if that's what they are called) where dirty and needed to be cleaned or replaced. I cannot find pics or a write-up of where they are located and look like. PROBLEM 2: going at slow speeds the tranny seems to not downshift like it should, i watch the tach jump up and down trying to downshift. told to check the trans oil level and make sure the sensor is clean. cant seem to find a write up about that either idea and what i was told about by my bmw friend to check first and i am more of a DIY guy. I have read alot of your guys help with other post and have used lots of info already just trying my first post with my first BMW |

1 cold start high idle is normal, secondary air pump kicks in for a bit then it drops down to normal idle, while that orange light under ur tachometer is on (orange bar) the car is still cold (my opinion >) avoid driving so fast off of cold starts esp short distances
2 tranny shifting hard on 1-2 and 2-1 on these cars can be many things but typically was found to be the mechatronics sleeve , fluid change and sleeve change typically fixed their issues, which is well known. others claim tranny adapt reset helps.
