Sorry for the stupid question, but how do you load the 25GB file into the car?

Basically you copy the image to a USB thumb drive, connect it to the USB connector in glove compartment.

Does this upgrade the software version and the map data or just the map data? |

You require minimum firmware of 47.5 to use all features. |

I think I just figured out why I'm confused. My '12 X5 35D has CIC not CCC so this doesn't apply to me. My bad.

To be clear for any Moderators: The data files is NOT copyrighted. We are legally permitted to copy and distribute it.
![]() And as a reminder, you still need to buy the FSC Activation Code from BMW to enable the loading of the map data. Multiple sources for the code, cheapest Ive seen was $96. And last, if you have a 2012, I would NOT buy the fcs code right away- try loading the map, BMW may have already 'enabled' the 2013 map by loading the code at the factory.... (the can enable a map set years before the map data is created, as the FSC code simply enables the loading of a dataset part number ointo a specific vin- as long as they have the future map partnumber, it can be done.)

2010 X5 is CIC not CCC, the update I have sent is for CIC only - 2013 North America Maps

I thought that CCC was in X5's up to 08, and CIC from Sept '09 onward. I'm not confused between firmware and map data, I'm just trying to determine if this map update applies to my car as i'm getting conflicting info, my dealer (parts and service managers) says my car is up to date, but it clearly has 2012 maps (as confirmed by the version status that I checked in the car). |

Maps are out there for free and a small activation charge you can do it for under $100.00. Just look around.

As other members have mentioned you can get it for 60, so save your 40 dollars for something else.

For my 2010 X5 35D I purchased the 2013 map data on a USB stick from getbmwparts.com for $46 plus shipping and my FSC code online for $60. I had done it with the DVD discs last year and the USB stick is quicker and you have a 32 GB stick when you are done.

Is the update really worth it? Any differences?

It was worth it to me. Way cheaper than having the dealer do it. I like to keep my maps up to date.

My dealership installed the 2013 map update under warranty because the 2012 map data was causing the navigation system to malfunction. This is what happened:
I have a 2012 x5d (late September build) and, ever since I took delivery, I noticed that no street names at all would appear on zoom levels 800ft or 1/2 mile, and at 400ft and 200ft, while the street names would appear, they would not appear when the map would regenerate as the car moved (kinda defeats the purpose of a map, eh?). While getting the alternator bolt recall done I asked my dealer to investigate the map issue I was having. The service guys verified my concern. The invoice states: "Found available nav update for vehicle SIB 65 22 12: install road map database 2013. Labor op code 00 61 577." This work and parts were 100% covered by the warranty. Installing the 2013 map update largely fixed the problem I was having (though the Tom Tom map database still seems skittish compared to the older Navteq data). I imagine that, if any of you can demonstrate a similar flaw with your map database, you may get the 2013 database under warranty. If, however, you have an iDrive system with the Navteq map data, I suggest that you keep it. |
