What the eff!

Well I had an anti-freeze leak and I just couldn't get it done by myself, so I called up the local(45 miles away) dealership to see what they could do. I told them what I was experiencing, and they told me it might be a coolant pipe of some sort that runs through my engine but I would need to take it in for them to look at. I told them yes I could come in Wensday and then went on planning that. At the end he managed to say they charged $135 an hour. Can that be right? On our Ford trucks we pay $40 an hour or so! I was just wondering what are some of your dealership rates and where are you located? $135 seems like a joke to me.. how can it be right!?

That is how much they charge for diagnostic. Hourly repair rate is lower.

I thought you knew where it was coming from, thought it was the o-ring on the sensor..

It's about the same here. Can you find an independent shop? Their rates are normally lower.. My INDY charges $85/hr and charges me for the actual hours spent on the job not the book hours and even then he works with me on the price. My point is, do some searching for an INDY, you might get lucky.

I would search around and try to find something cheaper. $100/hour would be nice. The problem you are running into is similar to mine; we live in areas where there not as many high end European shops, and the ones that are here charge more than the guys we read about in Florida or So. Cal.

As an example, I read about many members having their H&R springs put on for around $300. In Lexington the cheapest I could find was $500. The next best was $800.

Good luck. Hope it's not the weep hole.

Just got my 750i back from the dealer for the valveseal issue, 2.5 weeks and +$7K later. Luckily all but $800 (due to have engine out and exposed had them change plugs and do a few other pending jobs) was covered under warranty or I would be trading her. But if you have a warranty that covers the work great! If not I agree with 745on22s, Christmas may be a little light this year. Best of Luck

Check to see if the leak is coming from the lower hose where it connects to the radiator. There's a temperature sensor with an O ring that is known to go out. Easy fix and cheap. I had a leak recently and that was the culprit. Hopefully it's that and nothing major.

dont scare the guy to death now

even if its the weep hole, one of the craziest and very commnon leaks, there are ways around paying $5-10k

Bimmerpipe and AGA pipe can be done for under $2k.

google AGA pipe

I am hoping its the o-ring but won't know until later today. I think if it's the coolant pipe I will probably end up selling it as I don't want to deal with all these expensive repairs.. and driving it 45 miles for services kinda blows.. I searched all throughout IA for independent shops and couldn't find a decent one. I found a few but none had real BMW mechanics so im not sure what to do about that.

Well, I have never heard of a 750 having the weephole issue. Good luck.

take the lower cover off and give it a good inspection, worst casr order a new lower rad hose and o ring, try bavauto they ship same day, change the lower hose and oring and hopefully thats it, your still save $$ over bringing it to the dealer.
Btw I had this happen at 30k miles and thought it was covered under my cpo. It wasnt. they hit me for a new hose, new sensor etc and it came close to 700 for a lower rad hose.

Well after going to the dealership that anti-freeze was actually windshield washer fluid.. and they found a few other problems that I don't think I will replace.

They always find "a few other things" wrong. They gave me a list the first time I took my car there. My INDY checked everything they checked and gave me a much shorter list. what was the deal with the washer fluid?

Apparently my windshield washer pump has a leak in it and it looks just like anti freeze but only $210 to fix at the dealer. The guy I talked to told me not to even worry about it unless I wanted to so I think I will leave it alone. They also found

Transmission sealing sleeve: $489.14 and said I must replace very soon.
Timing case cover gaskets: $1,531.32 and said I should replace at some point but right now it won't matter too much.(Never getting done.)
19 Inch rear tires(2) Pirelli P zero; $1,031.26 for 2 tires... Yea not happening!
BMW coolant flush(1 Gallon): $110.80. He said I should have it done at some point but not a pressing issue.

phew! Dodged a bullet there!
Shop rate - yeah, that's normal. I think it's $125 here.

For the windshield washer pump... give it a look you can probably do it yourself..like 1bad said might just be that .50 o ring.

I know barely anything about cars but I am going to try it. Is it visible or am I going to have to take parts off? Is there a write up about this?

Neither do I but I'm trying. Probably have to take off the guard underneath to see anything.

I think on the 745 u just take the engine cover off its behind the driver side tire. U can literally just pull the pump up and check the orings. The 750 is in the same spot but its blocked a bit by the air intake. Take a flashlight and give it a quick look. I kno if you over fill it will leak.
