Dice options?
So I've been looking into getting a dice unit for my 2001 330ci but I seems like all the units are for a 2002 and up. Does anyone know if there is a unit that would work with my h/k system? If it matters mine is pre wired for the 6 disc changer but I don't have one.

I am pretty sure DICE will work on most all E46s. But honestly, I'd look for something better. I have installed a few of them and I am always underwhelmed. IMO, it would be better to spend the money to swap to an 03 and up Business CD and just do the AUX input addition.

What would swapping to a newer head unit entail? Is it just plug and play?

I installed the mediabridge in my 01 325ci in may and it works fine. Found it for i think around $140 on amazon. Considering capabilities and BT functionality it was well worth it.

Sorry to sound like such a dunce, but could someone please explain to me what the heck a DICE, mediabridge, etc., actually does? I've watched several youtube videos about installing them, but I still have no clue what they actually do. Although, if they don't add about 100 hp to the car, I probably wouldn't be interested, anyway
. Thanks.

http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/pr...tegration-Kit/ I found integrating it to the radio was a major pain to find anything on the iPod, so I set the pins in the configuration where the content is controlled off the iPod. I ran the wire up, tucking it under the seats, and put the unit under my rear floor mat, then the iPod wire comes up beside the console. I think it works great, tho there are times I can hear a bit of a whine when accelerating. I liked it so much I wanted to do the same thing in my 2000 Z3, but this time bought the mediabridge so I would have the bluetooth etc. We installed that but it was such a pain to find anything on the radio, push this button for this, then scroll with that, then back to this button... I got fed up really quick and pulled it out and sent it back to BSW. I didn't have the option to run the wire up the same way in the Z. I am still not sure what to do with the Z3, but it won't be another DICE product. If you want to integrate it into the radio, I might hesitate, because navigation via the radio is a bit of a pain. If you are just looking for an iPod adapter, I think that works great, navigating via the iPod. I think you will be able to find them for your 2001 - the one I found above at BSW was for the 2001 330Ci. Good luck! |

I have a DICE media bridge and found that it was quirky with my oem stereo (2001). I put in a head unit for an 03 and it's much better. With you having the h/k system it may not be so simple in your case. I only use the car controls for volume and track skipping and to answer incoming calls. I use my iPhone controls directly for everything else, and the Bluetooth connection works great.
I think bsw is a knowledgeable place to ask about the various dice options... |

Funny - OK, I thought I was falling down a never-ending spiral of electronic gadget anacronym-speak. So that's all it is, huh? When I did the car stereo upgrade on my daughter's car (I went all out, with the mid-bass speakers mounted onto DIY MDF baffles attached to the doors, after-market amp, etc.), I installed an after-market (Kenwood) head unit, which comes with an MP3 connector. A HUGE amount of work - took me less time to rebuild my Porsche's engine!
