I still end up at around 20.9 mixed every time I reset the indicator with around 60/40 Highway/City. The 6 speed is a pig in this car sorry to say.

City driving is the killer. Depending on the traffic, # of lights and stop signs and also the distance you cover, the mileage suffers a lot. When I do city driving in NJ, I only average 12-13 mpg while I average 16-17mpg in the small cities in PA (less traffic, less # of lights and stop signs, less idling) in my Infiniti. Both figures are much lower than the advertised 18mpg for 2010 G37x.
As the others already said above, the mileage will get better eventually, but may still be lower than the advertised # depending on the factors mentioned above. Just enjoy your greatly engineered car.

My 530i averages 15 in the city. Doesn't matter how I drive.
Your car is heavier and faster than mine. I think you're stuck.

I'm based in the UK where in my experience, many more 5 Series drivers go for diesel models. I think this is partly because of the expense of buying fuel here compared to the US, but also because there seems to be an acceptance that it's better for the environment. I've never been that interested in the environmental argument frankly as i'm a fairly selfish bastard, but when I look at the mpg figures you guys get with big petrol engines, it's scary. Admittedly you guys would out drag me were we ever to race, but I bet you wouldn't be as far ahead as you'd imagine. However when it comes to mpg, the diesel figures DESTROY petrol figures. My F10's LIFETIME mpg (at about 18k miles) hovers around the 43 mpg mark. Admittedly it drops quickly when I really hammer it for fun or if I'm in stop/start city traffic, but soon flies back up when I put cruise control on whilst on the motorway (freeway), cruising at about 75mph. It really makes me think that the US needs to change its culture towards petrol before we burn all the world's natural resources. I don't mean to be inflammatory, but seriously, 20ish mpg seems average for the US; less than half my figure! Scary!

rguinn10, you are correct about our cultural differences and our environmental attitudes, but that's slowly changing. This year, we're doing to finally get a diesel engine option for most cars.
Keep in mind also that our "20" is about your "24."

Ahhhhh, I see. I don't realise there was a difference between US mpg and UK mpg. Sorry for my ignorance! Having said that, there are such huge differences between the petrol mpg figures and diesel mpg figures that I'm still fairly shocked.

![]() Thinking the US is eventually going to be driving LNG fueled cars I'm helping usher that time in by burning gasoline at 14 to 28 mpg depending on the drive. I won't get a ton of miles in yearly but Ill give it my best shot! I do love just driving this car, the low end is almost electric torquey.

That's exactly what I've been averaging...16.9 mpg. I think I'm going to download that fuelly thing which dunderhi uses and keep track...

+ 1 on my 550i. I do a similar drive monthly and set it on cruise control. Back in town, reset, stop and go, and I barely break 20mpg.

On my recent pissant 7 mile commute to work I managed an all time low average of just under 14 mpg for the tank. Must be the jack rabbit 0-45 in 2 second starts? Oh I love that!
Point A to point B quickly and in high style. So many Point B's and so little time!

Could be the cold starts that is partly responsible for your low MPG.
