I agree, $200+shipping is too pricey.

I also agree that about $100 should be the going rate.

Although I do MOST of my wrenching myself. I would agree and attribute the "going rate" as suggested in an earlier post to around $20 per hour.

Here is my logic behind this.
You have to do none of the removal or re-installing of any said trim pieces. Vs. Where said mechanic does.
"decaling" "wrapping" or "slapping a sticker" on something doesn't justify a labor rate of close to $70 per hour. IMHO that is.

$200 does a lot more in other categories for our vehicles that is more than just "Appeal".

Please be aware that I am in no way slamming on you, your business, your work or line of work. I'm just offering you my .02c

The work looks good, but the vinyl can and most likely will scratch tear or be ripped by an "OOPS" in the future.

ic where you coming from i can respect that. but $20per hr or whatever is def not worth my time to do this lol. i do this in my spare time after real work, basically it breaks down to about $50 per hr. i do understand this is more of a hobby of mine that i can make some $$ to just dump back into my car stuff, but i gotta be realistic about it... most shops in my area that are even willing to wrap parts like this charge $70-$100 per hr. i'd say 9/10 vinyl graphic shops won't even touch it. this is prob the main reason i do offer my services on the forums. i'm getting a lot of responses from guys that tell me they simply can't get this done locally in there state and so on... here is a break down of how long it takes to do some of the work you see above.
e46 sedan 3hr wrap, 45min removal/instal, material cost is roughly worth $50.00.
e46 coupe 4hr wrap, 1.5hrs to remove and reinstal trim, and about 30min to disassemble all 4 armrest base, trim, leather cushion, materials cost is roughly worth $50.00.

lots of peeps don't realize how much work it really is to wrap a part and do it correctly and make it last. it is not as easy as "decaling" or "slapping a sticker" on something. it is very similar to upholstery work. you don't just wrap something and cut it at the edge, you gotta take lots of time and care making relief cuts, know where to position your relief cuts, folding/heating around edges smoothly and flat as possible. post heat all relief cuts/and front area to kill the vinyls memory and prevent bubbling in the future... you wouldn't offer a automotive upholstery shop $20/hr to wrap a leather steering wheel/armrest/suede door cards would you?... that's about the closest comparison to vinyl wrapping that i know of. i agree if someone wanted to come over and have me put some racing stripes on his car/decal graphics, i would charge less since that would be considered "decaling" or "slapping a sticker" on his car. i do feel the $$ is more than fair, most of my work has been from local guys and they have no prob with it, i do believe this is also the best alternative to buying real cf parts that are still around $400+for these cars and a lot nicer than the gel sticker decal kits you can get on ebay for $100-$200'ish.

you are correct about the fact that the "vinyl can and most likely will scratch tear or be ripped by an "OOPS" in the future." it is also a fact that your oem wood can crack/fade/ chip, and your oem black rubber stuff coated trims can bubble/peel/chip, and your oem brushed aluminum trims can scratch/dent/pit/chip, and your oem painted silver trims can fade/scratch/oxidize/peel/chip... thus reason why most guys wanna get there stuff wrapped up. for this reason, if anyone does mess a part up that i've wrapped or something like that, just send it back and i'll redo it. you just pay shipping both ways and i'm good for it. but don't send me back a entire trim scratched/chipped/ expecting for a full re-wrap! 1/2 pieces no prob. i hope this post makes you guys a bit more aware of what i do and what is involved. not to sway or "sell" you on it, just to show you my perspective. if you feel its worth your $$ then great, if not so be it. i am always supportive of any DIY guys and so on. feel free to hit me up about anything pertaining to this topic, as i have been doing this on the side for about 3yrs now.

thanks again guys for looking!

mark

So, you mean to tell me that since you've gotten more "experienced" it's added 1/2 an hour to your labor?

And you're also stating that the cost of material has almost doubled?

I don't mean to poke....

But according to your earlier calculations, 2.5 hours + $30 = $200 (shipping excluded)
so that is $170 for 2.5 hours, and you're saying that is equivalent to $50 per hour how?

I guess now that you are changing product cost and adding .5 of an hour to your installation your calculations are closer to $50 an hour..

Again like I said, not to poke.... But $56 per hour for a "hobby" Under the table with zero overhead is pretty pricey, It's that exact reason that the majority of us here on this site DIY mechanical work. And you're not "Fabricating" anything so I don't see how you can even compare what you are doing to anything upholstery related.

It does look pretty good though. Keep making your money man

BMW E46 sedan interior trim 2D glossy cf vinyl

good friend of mines BMW E46 sedan that i did a test wrap on with the new stuff. looks pretty LEGIT! was a lil harder to work with since the air release is not that great and it doesn't stretch much at all. used 3m primer94 along the front edges but none along the backsides. i think it's gonna hold up nicely since these parts are so flat. total job time was around 2hrs. That's kinda close but looks a little 2-D and off color a bit. You've seen the stock cube trim on the e46 ZHP 330s, right? It has a 3-D look to it, and isn't really glossy. You'd probably get quite a few takers as it's pretty popular with the e46 crowd and others.

Look for this picture at the link below (for a larger image) and you'll see what I mean.

Nice job! I like how all the lines on the different pieces run in a straight line. Not easy to do! I use to do tuck and roll in the old days.

BMW e46 M3 competition package 3m 1080 matte black steering wheel trim Avery Supreme gloss black roof wrap vinyl wrap Wu! Wraps

BMW e46 M3 competition package! did the steering wheel and SMG dome in 3m 1080 matte black, some gloss black BMW Roundel decals, and yellow foglights with Oracal 8300 yellow transparent tint film. came out great! owner is diggin it! the steering wheel & smg dome trim was all tarnished and kinda faded here and there so that was the main reason for the wrap job. stay tuned for a gloss black roof on this one, possibly tomorrow! total job time was about 1hr. Wu! Wraps also wrapped the roof and roof rails in Avery Supreme gloss black. roof rails removed as always for maximum coverage. came out great! total job time was 1.5hrs. Wu! Wraps

BMW e46 M3 Vvivid Vinyl 4D True R black carbon fiber roof & interior trim vinyl wrap Wu! Wraps Seattle Wa

BMW e46 M3 roof and interior trim wrapped with Vvivid Vinyl 4D True R black carbon fiber. came out great! interior trim was chipping/ bubbling like usual for these cars. sanded some sections and used some 3M Primer94 on some of the sanded edges only. came out great! nice refresh to a still sick car. roof came out great as well, as always roof rails removed for maximum coverage. owner is very happy with the results. total job time was about 6hrs (roof 1hr, interior 5hrs)... e46 coupes take lots of time to remove and disassemble the interior trim... all in all was a great project for the day! fan of your work

Great work. My girl has a used 2001 325ci and the interior is scratched up from previous owner. This is a very elegant solution to ashtray cover as well as the faded "wood" trim in convertibles which often haven hairline cracks. I would gladly pay for your expertise over learning how to heat and stretch. Hardest part is R&R of brittle interior parts.

sup sup, morning job today. owner came up from Bremerton to get his interior trim wrapped up today! oem silver finish was the usual oxidized, peeling, bubbling, rough, chipped as most are by now... stripped it all, sanded down the high/rough spots and wrapped it up! now looks better than new! this cf vinyl is kinda inbetween a 3M 1080 & 3M Di-Noc. so not quite fully matte but not quite satin either... nice finish non the less! owner is diggin tha new look! total job time was about 4.5hr on this one. the e46 coupe is still one of the more time consuming trims to wrap because of the time it takes to remove, disassemble, prep, and put it all back together...
