New Code: Active Blind Spot Detection System Activation at Lower Speeds

The Active Blind Spot Detection has two radar sensors below the rear bumper to monitor the area behind and next to the vehicle at speeds above approx. 30 mph/50 kmh.

This has saved me on a quite a few occasions from changing lanes at the wrong time.

Before you change lanes after setting the turn signal, the system issues a warning when there is a car close behind. The lamp in the housing of the exterior mirror flashes and the steering wheel vibrates.

One minor issue I have with this system is that it only is active at speeds above 30 mph/50 km/h. You can change that by adjusting the following code:

ICM->3000 Daten, F8->Hc2_i_CPar_Aktiv_v_low-> 25 kmh (the default is 50 km/h)

For the F10 (and the F06-thanks to djsaad1 for the information) this will set your system to show alarms at 17 mph/25km/h. Setting anything below 25 km/h in the F10/F06 WILL result in a system error after you start driving, so I do not recommend selecting anything less than that.

When you turn on the system, the instrument cluster will show the new speed above which active blind warnings can be issued:

Size:	294.3 KB
ID:	361355

You can now receive warnings at lower speeds than the default.

Notes:

1) Any errors/or malfunctions will clear up after a complete car shutdown.

2) Again, settings below 25 km/h will results in system errors once you start driving.

Many thanks to Sean and to djsaad1 for their help and testing. None of these code changes are possible without the resources, tools and advice provided by Shawn, Sean and others.

oneon3putts,

It is not a werte change, it is a simple scroll down selection.

This is a great find! 30mph always seemed too high for me. I actually had no clue that it warns you even more when trying to change lanes.

It actually vibrates the wheel and the triangle flashes like crazy when you try to change lanes.

You are obviously a better driver than me

I just did this and when I pushed the blind spot detection button the picture I got was, "System available as of 17mph ONLY".

What is everyones ICM->3000 Daten, F8->Hc2_i_CPar_Aktiv_v_high set as?

Ausfahrt,

Setting of Hc2_i_CPar_Aktiv_v_high has no effect on this system as far as all my testing. Are you sure it says "only" and it does not look like the picture I posted above? Have you physically tested the system before your posting? Is your system language set to US english?

Well I changed the high thinking that was the problem. It did not change anything. Actually I made a rookie mistake and I forgot what the default was on Hc2_i_CPar_Aktiv_v_high. So can someone check and see what theirs are set to? I want to set the high and low back to the original and see if I still get the ONLY. System language is set to US english.

Ausfahrt,

The default for that setting is 70 kmh. Can you also test the system function?

Can you please report back your findings?

Please check that you did not change:

Hc2_i_CPar_Fkt_Aktiv

That should be set to:

HC2 low aktiv

I didn't mess with Hc2_i_CPar_Fkt_Aktiv. I just took it out and everything seems to be working. I also went back and put Hc2_i_CPar_Aktiv_v_high back to 70 kmh and I still have it saying, "System available from 17mph ONLY"

Has anybody else tried this?

So despite the fact that it says "only" instead of "as of", it is working as it is suposed to and giving you warnings from 17 mph and above?

Perhaps the language used in the warning was changed in later updates of the software. If it is working, I really do not see what is the issue.

As for hearing from others for which this has worked, good luck. We only usualy hear from those with complaints.

Yup, it seems to be working. No issue really. I was just curious if anybody else said the same thing or am I the only one?

Thanks for your help JEG23!

Mine says "ONLY" too. But the system seems to be working fine.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems there are a few grammatically challenged cars out there.

I can see how it's confusing, but it does have a "from" in there so it technically makes sense.

Just coded it in my m5 and it's working great.

It was changed to HcSwcCPar_i_Hc2_Aktiv_v_low for any other M5 owners wanting to do this.
