2001 x5 3.0 Reliability at high mileage?

I've got my eye on a 2001 X5 3.0... it's got about 125K on it. Underside looks clean, no signs of leaks or weeps on engine that I can see... in fact, the engine is really clean and, to my surprise, shiny. Brakes seem to be pretty new, tires look brand new (Cooper, all-season), body looks great.
It drives like a boss, accelerates smoothly. Knowing little about BMWs, I'd be grateful for any input as to what to look for when I go to re-inspect it.

Also noted: RPMs 2000 @ 55MPH .. dunno if that's good or bad.

Take it to an indy BMW specialist and get a full inspection and written report. If you do a search on high mileage reliability both here and on xoutpost you should get any number of posts relating to ALL the common failure points and a rough idea of repair costs.

I wouldn't buy it without knowing the service history.

Cooling system would be of particular concern. Has the exp tank, water pump and tensioner/idler been replaced?
Check the front OUTER CV boots.

Hmm.. expansion tank looked new, will def check the cv boots. I think the dealer also said he has the service record, so I'll peruse that and see if the previous owner already addressed the common issues already. Then see about an inspection. Thanks, guys!

I wouldnt believe that the cooling system at 125k hadnt been addressed prob 2x. reliable yes I believe it will start everytime. costly should be your concern.

Heh, point taken. If I do end up buying it, I'm definitely going to take the warranty, too jic.
