HELP !! Secondary air pump (SAP) problems
Hi, I have a BMW E46 from 03/1999, i just bought it last month, and the secondary air pump was broken, so did the secondary air pump valve was stuck, and was open all the time. I replaced the secondary air pump (SAP) and the secondary air pump valve, the valve opens for 90 seconds when i start the engine(cold start) but the secondary air pump(sAP) does not start, I checked the voltage on the SAP connector and it was 0.4 volts instead of 12V.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks |

Check the fuse, replace it even to be sure. Inspect connector for damaged/pushed pins etc.
If all looks good on both, then start inspecting the wiring for the open between the fuse and the connector, start looking in areas where maintenance was performed that could have cut or damaged the wiring harness. |

I don't have a specific answer as mine's never had issues, but I've read up on it. here's the SAP diagnostic from bavauto's diy files. i'd guess the relay may have been killed by the prior dead pump.
if no one else with spcific exp answers, check the fuse for it in the glove box. then maybe try to replace the relay. Bentley shows it behind the glove box, the top one of the two on the left side of the general module (rectangle with 4 relays across the top of it and wiring harnesses converging on it)) |
