Blue Smoke from 740i
While driving my 2012 740i home last evening, the car notified me that I was low on oil and needed to add a quart as soon as possible. I drove another ½ mile to a stop sign and noticed the car was shaking slightly. Drove another 4 miles, to the next stop light, and the shaking was considerably worse. Drove 3 more miles to my house, parked the car for 15 minutes, and when I started the car again, the car shook even worse, idle was very rough and the car exhaust was blue smoke. The car has only 7,250 miles on it (I took delivery in May 2012). It needed to be flatbed towed to the dealer this morning. Smoke was as bad this morning when I pulled it out of the garage. No word yet from the dealer. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I will keep everyone posted on the prognosis.

It's a sign you're burning oil, mine hasn't (*knock on wood*).
Good luck!! Chris

Sounds like an internal engine problem. Blue smoke is oil in the combustion chamber- that's not something a sensor malfunction can accidentally trigger- like your engine shudder...

Initial Diagnosis
BMW service just called and they think it is a bad fuel injector. They will not know for sure until Monday once they take it apart. Worst part, they do not have any loaner cars available.

Final Fix
So here is what was done at BMW to fix the car:
BMW said the oil was contaminated with gas due to the bad injectors, so they needed to change the oil and filter. They did not know which injector was bad so they replaced them all. No reason for problem, it just happened. I am going to pick up the car this afternoon. |

Hopefully no damage was done to internals if the gas watered down the oil..
