Interior lights replacements

Has anyone replaced all the interior lights with LEDs?
If so, can you tell us how many and what bulb size?

I've only heard of superbrightleds.com but have had ok experiences with them. They usually last 6 months before they blow...on the 168/194 wedge bulbs.

I've experimented with various bulbs from ebay, to the point of cutting/soldering chips to get the desired illumination. Originally there's one type of 6W (iirc) bulb used in almost all of the lights except for sun visors, but when switching to LEDs you'll have to use various bulbs due to available space and, more importantly, how LED chips are positioned, especially for reading and dome ones. Also, keep in mind LEDs don't dim as well as regular bulbs, and for the love of god don't try to put LED in the glove box.

I purchased the following set via eBay and they work perfectly. I think these LEDs dim very well. The glove box bulb can be tricky but doable; just be extra careful.

Ben, what is the big rectangular light with the black line for?
How come there are 4 lights (with 2 light) and 9 lights (with 4 light)

I used to get each 194 bulb for $4.95 each here

These sellers say there are 17 (not 20) lights. So I guess your comes with 3 extra lights?

The big rectangular one is for the large dome light upfront. Sorry, can't remember which goes where, but they all fit properly.

No, there are no extra ones. If you wish to replace all interior light bulbs, you will need 20. This set is similar to the one offered by ECS Tuning, which is also 20. Looks like the ones you're looking at are missing the glove box light and the two visor lights.

Did you have to take the light apart to install it? It sure won't fit thru the socket.

P.S. LOL @ ECS wanting $112.46 + S/H for a bunch of bulbs you can get on ebay for less than $20.

I followed the installation instructions from ECS.

My question was about the big square bulb that ECS set doesn't seem to have as it's omitted in the instructions. Which, btw, speaks a lot re validity of their interior pictures, as no way these 5-LED bulbs produce that kind of output.

so the extra 3 lights (from 17 to 20) are 1 globe box light + 2 visor lights?

Why would anyone just do the 17 and not change the 2 visor lights? Glove box, I can understand, that does not really matter. I'd want the visor ones changed out too.
No idea how to change out the middle one (rectangular one)

Are all the sellers on ebay selling the same type of LED bulbs? i.e. life of bulb, quality of bulb

The first one from seller "lifeinshangh" has 5 5-way LED bulbs. Don't know why there is one extra. Sold from China for $53
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Error-Free-W...aa3450&vxp=mtr

versus the second one from another seller "polarbearmotor" for $54

I had no idea how to install that square one. It does not even look plug and play like all the others.

How do you even take out the housing from the front dome and install this wire?

The dome assembly itself is removed by pulling it down from the front. But it only gives you access to install standard bulbs. To fit in the square one, you have to disassemble the light itself, and then I guess LEDs will be dangling there, most likely rattling at every bump. This is why I begin to suspect a connection b/w the poster who recommended the ebay listing and the listing itself... obviously I still can be wrong, and apologize in advance.

I have no affilliation with the ebay listing. It was recommended by another member in a different thread. I purchased it and have had no issues with it.

The large rectangular one has 3M adhesive on the back, so it stays in place. I actually didn't like the bright-white LEDs for the dome and overhead lighting, so I only have the LEDs in the footwells, door-entry, rear hatch, and glove box. Sounds like a weird combo, but it works for me.

Again, I used the ECS installation guide.

Ben, the installation guide indicates that there are 20 lights total. It is missing the square one for the front dome. So isn't that a total of 21 lights?
These ebay sellers have 20 in their set. The picture does show the square one, so I don't know where the extra 1 is missing from.

The ECS kit does not use the "square" one for the dome light. Instead they use a "wedge" type bulb. So, there is only 20 in total.

A wedge type plug in, 194/168 bulb is very different from the square one. The space for a wedge probably doesnt even fit the square. How does a square one even fit?

Did you install the square one with the wire in place on the wedge plug in?

I did not attempt to install the dome light. Once I tried the two map lights, I knew I did not want overhead LED lighting.

Here are pics of the dome light. It's still sealed, so hopefully the pics are useful.

Thanks Ben. I contacted a local seller and they said you can choose either the 5 LED SMD 360 degree or the 4 LED SMD flat (one sided). The 5 LED is cylinder and the 4 LED is flat and one sided only but they said the flat one is brighter. I think only the 3 front dome/map lights need 360 degrees + the 2 rear dome/map lights need 360 degrees. I am not sure the trunk and the glove box need 360 degree lighting. Since they only shoot out light in one direction anyways.

This is what they are offering:

3x T10 5-smd 360 degree for front dome/map
2x T10 5-smd 360 degree for rear map
2x T10 2-smd flat for rear dome (slimmer type for better fitment)
2x 42mm 4-smd for vanity/visor
1x T10 5-smd 360 degree for glove box
4x T10 4-smd flat for footwell
4x T10 4-smd flat for door step
2x T10 5-smd 360 degree for trunk

Where does it really need 360 degree lighting besides front dome lights (3x) and rear dome lights (2x)?
