What is the best OBD code reader setup for the E63?

As posted to other threads, I'm trying to diagnose a rough idle on cold starts. None of the members in my local club have an OBD reader that will give any real detail on the E63. I was wondering what you all use?

I'm considering a tool from bimmian.com or a wireless solution like a Kiwi 2. What do you guys recommend?

David

Here is a post with the two best choices and links. From what I've seen the other options are limited in functionality.

If you are technically inclined with computers you can just buy a cable and install DIS/Progman, or you can spend about $300 for an all-inclusive package like Bavarian Technic.

Okay, bad news. My beater PC laptop is a no go - A failing hard drive.

As I'm a Mac guy now I was wondering if anyone has had success running DIS or Progman via boot camp or parallels. I really don't want to by a new PC based laptop just to run the diagnostic.

How about an app? Anyone had any luck getting detailed metrics and error codes from any of the OS 7 based apps?

David

I run BMTechnik's cable and software on a MacBook Pro in boot camp, and everything works fine. I have run fault reads, and done quite a bit of coding with it. No issues with compatibility at all.

Another road block... BMTechnik has apparently gone out of business. Any other suggestions where to source a cable for the E63?
