Resetting the service lights
Can anyone give out the procedure to reset the service lights after changing oil? My car just had the first oil change out of normal covered BMW maintenance and the BMW shop I went to did reset the light by using a combination of instrument clustor buttons and ignition key. Obviously they did not want to give it away but managed to get the first few steps like turn the ignition key with a button pressed and the reset shows up on the dash but after that I could not see the next steps.
I guess I need it for next time when I will be changing the oil myself. Thanks In advance, Nick |

Are you saying your X3 is out of warranty (over 50K miles)?

The dealer asked $275 for oil and filter change... I told them to get lost...

That seems excessive. My dealer charges about $75 for oil & filter.

Thank you all, the one that worked was this one:
http://www.autoshoppingcenter.com/se...ghts/Bmw1.html Procedure: Ignition key must be off Press and hold the trip odometer reset button in the instrument cluster (left button), and turn the ignition key to the first position. Keep the button pressed for approx. 5 seconds until one of the following words appear in the display: "Oil Service" or "Inspection", with "Reset". The service due is shown with "reset" if the coded minimum consumption limit has been reached and resetting is possible. If "reset" is not shown, the minimum limit has not been reached and resetting is not possible. Press and hold the reset button again until the word "Reset" begins to flash. While the display is flashing, press the left button briefly to reset the service interval. After the display has shown the new interval the following will appear: "End SIA". The system can only be reset again after 2.5 gal (10 liters) of fuel have been consumed |

petren: thank you!
I just had the service done earlier today at an independent shop and they forgot to reset the schedule. Instead of bothering them, I just did it myself.

Hello,
I tried the above reset procedure, but now it shows -4400. Any suggestions on why or what I do now? |

Try the procedure again. But, in the last step, when you press the Reset button, hold it down a few seconds longer than you did on the first try. I think I had to hold mine down a good 5 - 10 seconds for it to reset.
I had to perform the Reset procedure a few times before I got the button timing correct. Good luck
