Unhappy 740iL electrical problems

My car has multiple electrical problems. All doors, windows, locks, etc are not working. Insrument panel partually not working outside lights not working. So looks like all electrical equipment is not working. The passenger door is locked and it is impossible to open.
But car is driveable and all engine compartment works fine. I checked the fuses they all good. Anybody can share 740iL electrical service book or diagrams/schematics? Car 11/1997 740iL

Does your horn and radio work? Could be ignition switch.

Whilst low battery voltage can be responsible for various weird happenings, the OP stated that the car runs, which would normally restore sufficient voltage for everything to work. Therefore although the battery is often a culprit, I would check the WDS (wiring diagram) for the items that are not working to trace the supply fuse(s). Some BMW systems have a large fuse protecting several circuits, which are themselves protected by their own fuse, so you need check back far enough in the system, so you don't miss one. In a similar way a given module may be responsible for the operation of several components, so be aware of this possibility too.

He said he checked the fuses and I would stand by Battery exchange I have seen this same post many times and 98% say after the Battery was replaced no more problems. Once these Batteries start go it doesn't seem to matter, I have had my car since 20000 miles now at 111000 I have had 4 batteries with no other electrical problems but many symptoms and it was always been the Battery...

Well, I will check battery tomorrow and reply, then we all know that battery can cause problems. I checked fuses under the hood but I cannot access the glove box because the passenger door locked.
Thanks

The fusebox in trunk does not have any power/voltage, but fuses fine. Same time one of the fuses rated as a fuel pump fuse there is no voltage coming in, but fuel pump works I can tell, weird.
I still cannot access the fusebox in glove compartment , door is locked. Will try to exchange battery and see if it works.

Thing is, failing batteries typically cause starting problems or odd effects because the voltage is too low, but everything works if the car starts. Here, things are not working with the car running which suggets some other problem such as the ignition switch mentioned, or a fuse or a module. Tracking the non working items back to a common source is the cheapest and most efficient way to resolve...

I changed the battery. It does not help. So far change battery and replace battery on key. Problem still the same. Cannot open passenger door to check fuses in glove compartment. Anyone any ideas?

Yes!...ignition switch. That will cause certain things to work or not.

Part# : 61 32 6 901 962

$77.90 at EAC EURO PARTS.

Theres a test you can do. Something like putting down your passenger visor, opening the mirrow so the light comes on and see if anything changes. Someone chime in that knows more about the test.

Sorry this is a long one: When the key is turned to position 2 many systems not in use change from off to standby (ie there is a driver who MAY want this system). The current drawn for this function is so low that the contacts of the ignition switch oxidise over time. Power for these 'other functions' (navigation radio etc) come via other fuses. The visor lights also passes through some of the 'low current' switch contacts and the current increase can blow the oxide off (can also start a problem). That is why removing and a switch cleaner wash while turning the switch may fix problems. (Lecture over). OK - have you REALLY cleaned checked and tested the battery connections? Also a battery that will start is no acid test - I had a battery that would start the car but lost all memories etc when cranking.

Found problem. The fuse box under the passenger seat destroyed and all wiring and fuses burn. Fix the fuse box. Everything works now except Radio. Great help is the Book from Bentley. Bought on Amazon $100 worth it.
