fueling problems

So I went to fill up the 750 today. I cant just set the fuel and let it go without it shutting off. I cant even put the handle on the lowest setting, it will click off. I finally got fed up and just put in $40. Is it the design of the fuel neck or is there a vent problem? Anybody else have this issue? She is a 2007 750 Li.

Have you tried using another station? How does it behave at another station?

Ever since I got my E46, i noticed it is finicky to vapor recovery systems. I have had it pop the fuel filling pump prematurely like what you experience but also had it never stop pumping even when it was full. Its really a gamble with this car every time I fill up, that I hate filling it up and wondering if it will overflow. I still have yet to figure out if this is normal or what?

well, i guess im gonna have to pay more attention at a different station. filling your tank up carefree is one of those things one can take for granted i think.

It hasn't happened to me but you can try positioning the nozzle at an angle to the left or right, it's worked on my suv. Or even pulling it out a tiny bit might help.

fueling problems

I have the same vechile, 2007, 750 Li, and the exact same issue. It is not a "station" issue. But I would love to hear a possible solution.

(off topic) In Jersey we have gas attendants that pump your fuel for you, so when I go to other states i forget that I have to pump my own fuel so I be sitting in the car waiting for someone to pump it for me LOL. (On Topic) If you turn the pump handle sideways/angle it will continue to fill with out clicking off.

Not true on the turning the pump handle sideways, at least not in my case. I have tried everything you can think of. It fuels great right to about $35-$40 and then it shuts off and its painful after that. The dealer said its either the filler neck or the tank....(i was thinking, no ****) to myself when he told me. The tank is covered under my warranty and the filler neck is not. Now I just have to get time to take it in and let them look at it.

this happened to another member and there was an issue with a carbon filter or something of the nature that is located in the filler pipe.

At dealer now SA said it's probably the "Fuel Expansion Tank" said that the vapors builds up in there and can cause it to do this, said he has had to change a few also. Hope others can chime in and shine some light on this issue since I don't really trust these people.

I had the same problem in my car, it is a filter in the fuel-pipe or tank, the dealer took care of it and the problem went away. Its a warranty issue what was solved by BMW

I am in Angola, Africa right now, working, so I can afford the beast,so its hard to look in my dashboard locker to see what it was exactly, but is seems to be a known problem what was solved at the dealer ship. I could not even tank a 1/4 of a gallon in my tank, it would shut off about 40 times on a tank, it would take me 15 min to fill it up

i have the same issue but not in my 750, i have that same problem in my Landcruiser. it wont fill especially in hot weather because i think that fuel fumes are so intense that it would lead to high back pressure that will cause the nozzle issue. however, when the weather is cooler especially at night i never had that problem. only in summer time during the day !!!

Yeah bro I'm going to test this theory out in a few minutes, the dealer also suggested that I try fueling up at night and see it happens so I'll give it a go.

its 4am here and 70 degrees outside just went to the gas station and was able to fill the with no problems. I'll go back to the dealer and let him know this and see what he says maybe he will tell me its something else or he could stick to his previous story.

It is the charcoal canister that causes this problem, also referred to as carbon filter, vapor canister, or charcoal filter.

It is about a $300-$400 part.

I have this problem. Is it the charcoal canister? I spoke with an Indy and he said it couldn't cause the problem. Not sure if he knows what he is talking about.

Thanks
