Hmmm. Sorry. I thought the X1 went to Magna after the X3.

Chinese cars don't leave China and India cars are "CKD"s...and probably stay in India.
"In the CKD process, certain parts and components are packaged as kits in precisely defined assembly steps and exported for assembly in the respective countries. These kits are then supplemented with locally manufactured parts in the partner countries. Assembly takes place on location with adherence to the BMW Group's global quality standards." Not sure where the "shxxxxt" comes from but unless you've been to China or India to test drive an X1 then your scattergun approach of review seems suspect and "trollish". Just an observation Now Gypsum Drywall panels and Flush Door Skins(veneered) from China is a different story!

RE Silver, your response puts suspect on things coming out of China. Please don't be so quick to brand everything as bad. Witness the Apple iPhone 5. Top quality product coming out of that country. Unless you've actually tried the X1 from China and compared it directly with the ones produced in Germany, taking that broad brush approach isn't wise.

X3's are built in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Chennai, India. So I guess your own X3 is also shxxxxt. No X3's are built in Germany. Meanwhile our US bound X1's are all built in Germany.

I disappeared from the BMW fold nearly 4 years ago and am contemplating either an X-1 Sdrive28 or 328i sedan. A recent test drive verified my hunch that an X-1 will be the better value for my needs. Similarly highly optioned vehicles yield a roughly $7K MSRP difference.
Don't know if the OP GarryC has made a choice, but the forthcoming 320i may be a good compromise, particularly if leaning toward a base vehicle with fewer options. I ruled this out following 15 minutes of configuring, as the interior selections are limited to black/tan. Moreover, the de-rated engine offers no significant MPG improvement. For the price, it may be a niche alternative.

OP, I wouldn't listen to a guy who owns an X3 and who obviously has some baseless negative opinions about a vehicle he doesn't even own. X1's are getting great reviews, and the majority of owners feel likewise. Don't feed the troll |

This thread contains comments that the X1 is not selling well. BMW Config's site, shows pie charts with various 30 day sale statistics (http://www.bmwconfig.com/BmwConfig/Statistics.aspx). There is a current 30 day chart showing breakdown by series and more X1's have been sold than X3's and X5's combined.
I had been looking at the X3 last summer to replace my current Nissan SUV, which is when I first saw the X1. I test drove it, and it felt very much like my 2010 335 X drive (that car was being replaced with a 2013 335i Xdrive- ED). The X1 seemed like a better choice for me than the X3; a little smaller, more car like and built in Germany with European Delivery as an option. I just ordered the X1 xdrive 28i, with all the packages for a May ED. It is true that it it is missing the better cameras and the lane change warnings found on the X3 and new 3 series, but where else can you find a vehicle that handles like the old 3 series yet has just about the same ground clearance as the X3.

http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/ shows the following January sales: X1: 1165 X3: 2005 X5: 4084 Frankly, I don't really mind. I'd rather drive a somewhat rare car than to see myself coming and going! |

My X1 Handles awesome with the M Sport package. but I also have the 35i version so it is basically a little taller 135i and has a little more cargo room. If you are getting the 28i make sure you get the xdrive as it will come with the Hydraulic steering and have a much better feel. if you just get the Sdrive, it will have the electric servo steering and ruin the experience.

Do you have the servotronic option. I'm trying to find someone who can compare the sDrive servotronic to the hydraulic.

no servotronic - it was supposed to make steering feel even more numb, especially at low speeds

I've been told the opposite, that on the sDrive it actually improves the EPS and tightens steering at speed.
