Why X1 ?

Well most of our driving is in city, and didn't want any more electronic steering assistance at regular speeds.. At freeway speeds I can't see it making any difference since you don't really steer much... So maybe on a track it would be noticeable. Truthfully I don't really know.. We don't have it and I think the steering is fine with the RWD

Unfortunately you cannot get the 35i without the xdrive. but My 35i is heavier and faster than the 28i... I will take the extra ponies and awd over the 28i it seems like it was working too hard. the 35i is 12.9 lb/HP... the 28i is 14.69 lb/HP..

In theory you are correct if you are comparing apples to apples... unfortunately this is apples to oranges due to the different powerplant

Where'd you get this from? If anything, the N20/26 feels like it has way more to give. Throttle modulation aside, it never feels like it struggles in any way (IMO - and being the owner of one).

Had one for a week... Thats why I opted for the 35i

If you have driven the F30 328i you will realize that the 28i in the X1 does struggle in comparison. I purchased the 28i because I wanted the new shifter and lower cost (didn't need servotronic). I came from an E90 335i and the while my BMS Stage 1 tune is an improvement it does not transform the car into a 35i. I am anxiously awaiting BMS Stage 2 because I miss the torque of the 335i. The 28i is competent and fast, it just has to work harder than the 35i.

Let me add that the performance of the N20 in my X1 is about equivalent to the N52 in my 128i (due to size/weights). More than competent but don't compare to the N54/N55.

I know you like to comment on every thread, about every topic ever brought up... but who's comparing my X1 28i to the F30 328i, the X1 35i or any of your past cars?? I could care less to take a 328i out for a drive, or that the 35i has more torque (which is a given). I could use the same argument about my M Coupe, or the fact that your 335i would have a definite 'struggle' keeping up to my old 500hp SRT-8... but it's completely irrelevant.

I'm talking specifically about the X1 28i with the N20 having lots of headroom as far as the engine is concerned. For what it is - an SUV - it's an extremely capable ride, that doesn't leave me wanting. IMO, it's certainly not "working too hard", especially with the 8spd tranny working things out perfectly.

A conservative BMS piggyback and you're at 5 seconds to 60mph, so that should speak for itself.

I agree with you. I have owned three 335i Xdrives, including my present 2013, but for the X1, I have chosen a 2014 Xdrive 28i for a May ED. I have test driven both the 28 & 35 X1s and am totally confident the the 28i will have adequate power. I live in Vermont where we have many two lane roads, and what is critical for me is passing acceleration. The X1 may have to downshift a little more often, but it has plenty of power.
