All BMWs 2TB SAT Gear Shift Retrofit

Thanks to our fellow fester itschase, I am now the proud owner of newly retrofitted 2TB SAT Gear Shift.

Not only does it look much better, it just feels better too.

No coding necessary either, unless you want SAT S1-S7 too:

Thanks, but I think I am done. I have no desire for the paddles. If I wanted to manually shift gears, I'd would have bought a 6MT.

A little part of me regrets not getting the 35i now. 28i has been great, but I miss the heartbeat of a 6 cyclinder and some of the features that come with it.

Whoa, ok, that's not in my budget right now.

I did find a little more information on the paddle shifters. It appears you need to replace the entire steering wheel with an M sport steering wheel and would need to order it with the paddle shifters (and heat if you have that) as one unit. Costs range from $600-800 in general for the part alone. Not sure if any other mods are needed for all functions to work.

Well, used from a friend, I paid only a fraction of the new price.

I figured that was the case. I'll setup a query on eBay to watch for it.

I have a ceramic iDrive controller en route to me, so now I am looking for the ceramic SAT gear shift, and the ceramic Radio and A/C knobs / panels. Hopefully I can find all the pieces, and then do a 4U1 retrofit.

Maybe Santa will be good to me.

Does it change the way how it drives? Do you feel any differences in shifting just by replacing the shifter without coding for s1-s7 mode? Like faster gear changes or responsiveness?
Or do we get the sat mode automatically just by installing the shifter?

In Manual Mode, the Shifting feels the same on my M-Sport as it did with the original Gear Shift.

IMO, it's got way better grip and unlock/park button feels less cheap. wish ceramic parts were bit cheaper... they look so nice.

Yes, no doubt. It feels way better in the hand in terms of grip and the contour of it.

maybe he meant your car is dirty?
btw the picture reminded me; does US F10 also have cupholders in different depth? I recently found out that left one is deeper than the right one.

I don't have time for that. My car gets washed maybe once per year, whether it needs it or not.

I have never noticed a difference in the cup-holder depth...but now I feel compelled to check.

Shawn, I noticed that after adding 2TB to the VO and calculating SVT target for another i-level, there is an entry on the GWS module for a different HWAP module see pic. I see you retrofitted without any coding.

This is tested on my car with the 205 shifter, so no hardware changed.

Do you think that relates to the 'expected' 2TB shifter similar to the one you retrofitted? What does HWAP stand for?

Not sure. I didn't bother bother calculating SVT Target after I put mine in, but I imagine mine would do the same.

The HWEL, HWAP and HWFR all have to do with the Hardware version of the ECU, but I do not understand yet exactly what they are, how they differ, and what the implications are.

I know that my car is not dealer programmable with SAT GWS installed. ISTA/P rejects it as being "bad", because the part number is not what it is expecting.
