Shift Knob - Annoying Rattle

My shift knob seems a bit loose, so with the engine vibration, it is a super annoying rattle. I think this I can handle... I want to just pop it off from the stick (I heard its tough but doable), and maybe put some silicon glue in there and then put it back on with some pressure, and I assume that will do the trick?

There are two parts to the manual shift knob. There is an inner plastic liner with a notch in the top that mates with a metal notch in the metal shift lever. This inner plastic liner should NEVER be glued to the shift liner. If it is broken, buy another shift lever. The part that you hand fits over slides over the plastic liner. You may place what ever adhesive you deem necessary there. Personally I found 3M 5200 or Goop works well there.

Yes it was the plastic piece inside.. the knob came off fairly easily, I still have all my teeth, and immediately I saw some loose black pieces of plastic, just removed those, and its all good.... simplest job I ever did.

Actually after taking those loose plastic pieces out it is still vibrating.... any ideas? Do I need to replace the whole knob?
