This is how I got a set of M-tech bumpers for free

Well, after I put in the speakers, driving around town and breaking in the speakers this passed Sat afternoon, this is what happened.
While I was in the 2nd lane( counting from the left). A guy, on the 3rd lane ( on my right front, while I was at his blind spot), need to switch to the 1st lane to make a turn to the left. The below link are two pic post by someone on the local car forum already, discussing who's fault was it.

http://i.uwants.com/u/attachments/da...EFCfobPNCr.jpg

http://i.uwants.com/u/attachments/da...KPjTHSmxkU.jpg

The front corner of my bumper got caught by his wheels, so it peals right out. At the end of the event, I had to make the left turn with him, follow him to an ATM machine....to get my money for the new bumpers. As I always wanted to replace those 2 bumpers as the PO put all kind of scratches on it while parking the car. Well, now I can have both replaced at no cost.
The bad part is even the fender need to be repaint, this kind of disappointed me as I never like re-painted parts on the car itself.

The fun part is blocking the major pass-way in the city for an hour or so.....

Will post more pic when server allow attachment.

Hi Ed,

I guess things are done much differently over there! here in the UK and also in the USA, money isn't exchanged at the scene of an accident like this. Insurance is what sorts the issue/mess out. As it stands, you've got 'money' from the other guy which of course means he admitted being the at fault party. Now that you've both driven off, I suspect you've perhaps not got his name / address so, if it turns out later you have more damage to your car, i.e bent chassis, or suspension tower is out of line etc, you will have to pay for those repairs yourself. Even if you do have the guys number, if you approach him again asking for more money he's likely to tell you to go away as you could have caused the damage after you both left the scene.

From the pictures, he's cut across in front of you, and yes, probably has damaged your bumper, wing and headlamp perhaps. How much did you ask for? enough for replica bumpers? or for genuine BMW bumpers?! did you also ask for coverage of the labour, fitting and painting too?!

Hope it all does work out well!

Cheers, Dennis!

Because no parties was injuired, so the police just keeps a record of it, until anyone goes to the traffic depart to file a proper statement, then it will have official filing. Well we already had both sides info already, so it is ok, plus going through the insurance, takes forever and they never paid enough.

I got roughlyUSD1.5 K out of this, took pic of everywhere around the damage area at the scene and "whattsapp" the pic to my repair guy, and he told me to ask the guy for 1.5K, is well enough for the repair with OEM parts. Well thinking about just spilt the money to get some replica m-tech for the front and rear then.

Come out on top and get well-fitting replicas. A few years ago a garbage truck reversed into my MR2 and ripped the spoiler from the trunk. Estimated $1200 in repairs. The garbage company cut me a check instead of taking it to a body shop that was affiliated with them. Bought a used trunk lid with spoiler attached for $150 and used the rest towards a bigger turbo.

Yeah, my repair guy recommend a place for the replicas, so I will properly stop by tomorrow to see his E30 and his co-worker's E39. In the meant time, need to do some research on the material as his bumper is made from PP.

I am in HK, and the 2 pics should had a better view of the road, I was on the 2nd lane going straight and need to move to the left lane to avoid him. I didn't turn my wheels more as I rather had the bumper push him off than having a side swipe.
And the 3rd pic will show the damage to the bumper and fender.

Finally both bumpers installed. Not too bad as an aftermarket product. The edge of the bumper are of by 2-3mm short, didn't have a perfect line up with the fender, close enough for me with that price. Played with it a little before had them install, the do flex like the OEM one. And the fender, properly I will not fix it, I rather had a little dent vs repaint on the body.

BTW, I am still roughly USD450 under budget, thinking about the lights, tail lights and the kidney grill replacement.....see what combination will fit the budget

Car looks very nice

For $450, my vote is to do the tail lights vs. headlights. The stock hyeadlights you have now are some of the best headlights out there in terms of optics. You will not even come close to duplicating the evenly spread lighting distribution on the horizontal road surface w/ $450 aftermarket HID projector lens headlights. Those kinds may be brighter, but they don't cast light as far forward nor spread out more to the left ^ right of the front. They're just glare-bombs, two bright dots blasted right onto the front of the hood.

but, $450 worth of rear tail lights...now that's different. You can get the Celis and that there will definitely improve the aesthetics as well as braking, signal lighting all around.

Did you finish the undercarage with the propper fender liners and belly pan? If not, that would be a wise investment for that $450 you still have left

Yeah, I am more towards doing the tail lights, I kind of like this older version of headlights, as the round lights looks bigger, rather than the newer one with the angle eyes, and after market is even worst. Pretty true the light pattern is much better, more even and better spread. The 528 I use to have got the newer hella angle eye headlights, I never like the beam patten off it, nor the look of it.
