Hard as a rock comes to mind for the high-performance run flats. They also only last about 25K miles due to the soft tread compound that makes them good summer tires, One note is that they are also SUMMER ONLY tires so if you plan on driving in any snow at all...well, don't. They are a significantly better option than the Bridgestone's though.

Any particular tire or model?

I'd base a decision on SPECIFIC tires on SPECIFIC cars... tirerack has decent ratings, but too often they test tires on puny little cars and extrapolating to bigger cars or higher performance cars will fail.

IMO the best rfts for the X5 are made by michelin

I'm running Dunlop winters on my X5 -- I like them. They handle well and seem quiet to me. I run Michelins in summer. I had Pirelli's Scorpions on my other X5 for the past 3 winters.
