SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- German automaker BMW said late Wednesday that it will recall about 2,000 models in the United States due to an engine fault that could cause unexpected stalls.
BMW cautioned that if a car should stall because of the engine control defect, the driver will lose all power steering and power braking assistance.
Vehicles affected by the production fault include 5, 6 and 7 Series cars, as well as X5 SAVs equipped with V8 and V12 engines produced this year between May 12 and July 6.
BMW asked all affected vehicle owners to stop driving the cars immediately and contact BMW of North America Customer Relations.
