The Dreaded Rear Admiral

This morning, my wife was the second car in the #1 lane at a four-way stop sign intersection. ASS had kicked in, so the engine was off. There was an empty left hand turn lane next to her. She was waiting for the car in front of her to move through the intersection, when some dumbass in a Corolla decided to move into the turn lane. He was coming in too fast, so naturally, he hit the gas rather than the brake.

The wife is fine and our dog, who was in the back seat, is fine. But the X1, which hasn't reached it's first oil change yet, is a mess.

Painful to look at. Glad all are okay and sure it will look just like new when repaired.

We don't owe anything since the dude told the cops that he hit the gas instead of the brake.
But we just got the estimate of what we would owe, if it wasn't covered- $7,800. There are 163 different parts that need replacing or fixing.
We won't get it back until mid-July.

Rental

Will his insurance at least give you a rental? I wish I could give you some advice but it would have only been from my own experience in the past. Just don't sign off on anything until you are satisfied with the final result.

I get up to $30/day for a rental through my insurance.
I currently have an I-4 Dodge Avenger. It's horrible.

Supposedly the repairs are done and it's going to paint. They say it will be done on Thursday.
Hopefully that's true.

I have a Chevy Malibu rental car now. It's infinitely better than that Avenger, but it's still nothing like the wife's X1 or even my Mazda6.

I just picked it up. The final cost of repairs would have been $7,900, if I had to pay it!
