E30 back-up lights

No other electrical problems, but the back-up lights have stopped coming on.. ('87 325iS)

Can you tell me the most likely place to start looking? Is it likely to be a fuse, or would that cause other issues as well?

Start simple: fuse. If that is good, test each bulb, and test for voltage at the bulb/socket. One going out is possible, but both at the same time points to other areas common to both. Now it gets a bit harder: the reverse switch on the transmission. Is it a 5-speed or automatic?

It's a 5-speed... Bulbs don't seem likely, with both going out at the same time....

there is a switch on the side of the gearbox up near the top with two wires going into it, will be hard to reach/see, you will need the car on blocks to get to it. Of course, first check the wires are present/attached, and then you can test for continuity

You'll need to check the reverse switch. You have to do it from under the car.
