A Cry for Help... Or, De-Installing, Installing Throttle Actuator

Hey Board,

I'm going to replace the Throttle Actuator/ASC+T unit on my 1994 530i.



Anybody ever done this before and might share some thoughts, or direct me to an old thread? I will be replacing the headlight assembly and whole front bumper at the same time so access to the unit (which sits just under the cruise control 'jimmy') probably couldn't be better.

I've not replaced this before, but this is a perfect thread to plug the Bentley manual. Find it online within this forum, or better yet, pick up a copy on eBay or Craigslist. Extremely useful, and it will pay for itself on the first DIY you reference!

U can plug that half assed manual all u want its still garbage . I havent pulled it off the shelf to see if it has anything about the throttle actuator but I KNOW for a fact it says not one word about the cruise control which is mounted on the same bracket e

From the manual :

NOTE —
On cars equipped with traction control, the throttle
valve is controlled by an electronic throttle actuator
(motor) instead of a cable. Repair information for this
system (called EML or ADS) is not covered here due to
the special electrical testing equipment required to service
the system. See Electrical Wiring Diagrams for
the traction control electrical circuits.

and further elsewhere :

On cars with Automatic Stability Control + Traction
(ASC+T). special BMW service equipment is required
to properly bleed the ASC+T/ABS system.
For safety reasons, the brake system on cars with
ASC+T must not be bled using the procedures described
below.

I doubt that you don't need special equipment, you just need to know how to open each abs valve with an allen key or something like that. OP, please make damn sure of what you need to do before doing it. Youtube probably has some videos if no one here will talk you through this exactly.
