Radar detector

I live in Maryland and drive often in Va. General question is does Radar detector really help to preventing ticket? Never had a RD before. Well never had a BMW either but custom ordered one coming in 10 days. Knowing the car begs to go fast. Wondering if I need a RD. I was thinking getting the Escort Redline for the stealth detection.

I'm pretty sure that RD's are illegal in VA as well as DC, the cops have "radar detector detectors". Also I have a V1 and it works, but even in logic mode most alerts are false alarms like an Audi A8 with parking sensors driving behind you, they make it go berserk. Didn't get the Escort because I wanted to visor mount it on the passenger side and the GPS signal won't go through the roof.

I was in VA last week, yes there are illegal there. It's scary that cops have radar detectors detectors. Lol

That's why I am thinking about the Escort Redline. It is invisible to cops' detection. However, if I stick on the glass, they can visually see it and still bust me.

I am just concern about the false positive to the point it becomes useless.

Never had one so I am curious if people buy it with high hopes and then after a few months just toss it in the drawer.

I would love to get the Escort 9500ci custom installed but it's way to rich for my blood. Upwards of $2k after install.

I swear by the V1. I'm in MD too and my V1 has saved me on 270/495/95 multiple, multiple times. I just unplug it and put it away when I head into VA.

Do the cops in VA really have radar detector detectors? Do they work?

Radar detector detectors? We used to have one and they are helpful. Looks like the only state where they are illegal is VA and the District of Columbia. Hummm......

This

You do need to be more careful in VA. get a detector that cops can't pickup. The nice ones also have a list of all the speed cameras in them as well. I have an standard model. No tickets yet. Saved me once. I don't speed without it on. It's not 100%, but its better then nothing.

Yes and Yes. RDD's pick up on the 'leaking' frequency that RD's put out.

Yes but it's not a panacea. On some roads my escort gives me ample warning of smoky aways away. But some of these coppers like to be cute, and use laser or instant on radar in which case you're meat.

Yes, it is very useful. You can monitor your driving speed in the radar detector while driving. Escort brand surely is one of the best radar detector as of 2012.

Definitely worth it. Don't buy the cheap ones though. I purchased mine back in 2008 escort 995 still saving my butt. I basically know which dept is clocking me by the bands they use. I disabled some bands like x band which basically sends off false alarms from cell phone towers. There's prob. better ones out there now just do your research. Good luck!

VALENTINE is the best, shoots out the front and back and can be hidden when installed, it is not cheap but one of the best out there.
