GC vs. 7 vs. Pana

I was in the neighborhood so I stopped by BMW of Silver Spring this morning to see if they had any Gran Coupes on the floor. They had one...an Alpine White 640. This was the first GC I've seen in the flesh and, no doubt about it, it's one gorgeous vehicle. Coming from a 7...and they happened to have one right behind it...the 7 is definitely roomier inside; however, my impression is that the GC would comfortably seat 4 adults...perhaps not anyone much over 6' in the rear seats. I adjusted the front seat to my driving position and then sat in the seat behind it and felt that I had ample seating room. Except for the fact that the 7 can accommodate 5 adults comfortably and the Pana only 4 (much like the GC), the 7 and the Pana offer passengers similar roominess. In the GC passengers seat closer to each other but I would say still comfortably. Having owned three 6 Series cars, the GC is definitely not the coupe when it comes to seating passengers in the rear. So, in case anyone was wondering whether the GC is a for real 4-door coupe, I would say that the answer to that question is unequivocally yes...but if it were me, I'd have to go with the twin turbo V8. Just sayin'!

Agreed. I've had several 6er Coupes prior to the GC and one of my main gripes was always the worthless back seat. I don't need to haul rear seat passengers often, but I always hated not being able to do when the need arose. I've owned numerous 7ers, as well. Great cars, certainly, but I just wasn't ready to give up the sporting flair of the 6er Coupe... thus what I hope will be the perfect compromise... the GC.

I had that same illness for a while and found the cure in my 4S. Seriously, though, I love everything about this car, starting with the way it looks. I also like the way I can set up this car for driving. I can adjust the suspension for stiffness and stance and the Sport Chrono Package allows me to adjust the tuning and throttle response. If you're thinking in this direction, you owe it to yourself to take a few test drives...and drive them all.

I'm anxious to see next year's facelift for the Pan. The car has certainly aesthetically grown on me, but a nip and a tuck could be really great. Do you have those amazing LED headlights with the four small bulbs, Leslie?

Those LED Headlights with the four small bulks are only on GTS, Turbo and Turbo S models.

I know the headlights to which you're referring. My 4S does not have those; those are standard, I think, on the Turbo and TurboS models and maybe the GTS. As for a "facelift" on the `13, I'm not sure. In yesterday's mail I received the latest issue of Christophorus, Porsche's magazine, and the cover story is the "touring version" which, I believe, is going to be an entirely separate model and not a "next" Pana. We'll have to see...

Yeah, the Touring version, at least in concept form, looked really interesting. Of course, I've always been drawn to what some consider the odd ball shapes.... the X6, the Ferrari FF, etc.

I just leased my car a few months ago... I afraid of getting into a Panamera and having buyers remorse... Ill look into it close to the end of my lease in three years... Love the Pana though..

I've been in your position as well...experiencing another car that I perceived was better than what I had...and that's not a good place. However, that's one of the wonderful features of leasing. It's just a matter of time and then you can move on to what's next. I've always handled it the same way you have in mind...start looking towards the end of the lease. On the plus side, you're in a great car right now!
