Just a quick oil question

I'm in Arkansas and its cold now, duh, and I'm running 20-50. Temps in the winter range from 10 to 60, sometimes 70s , more cold then warm. Should I go to a 15-40 or can I stay with 20-50?

Daily driver, 80s mph on the highways, Manual trans, I warm the car before I drive.

Okay, here's a link to download a PDF of the owners manual. Go to the section regarding oil. It will have a chart which specifies which weight oil to use factoring in seasonal temperature fluctuations.

ORRRRRR... someone can save the reading and ..... you know what, nevermind. I don't waste time reading when the internet gets straight to the point. I know I can run 20-50 all year but I am, was looking for personal opinions from e36 drivers with 100000+ miles.

All I did was provide you with the resources needed to answer your own question (and potentially many more).

AND, if you're going to get snippy about things, keep in mind that I didn't yell at you for being lazy and not using the search button to find the answer to a question which gets asked all the time. It's been covered. The info is there. Just SEARCH. You also, somehow, amazingly, overlooked the thread we created specifically for oil in E36s, which is stickied at the top of the main E36 forum page...

I got my answer, and thanks for nothing. I don't need to read a bunch of nothing to find out one something. That's a serious waste of time.

20-50 will be fine, until that one day it isn't.

Switch out for winter to 10-40. Also stop being a jerk.

Then why didn't you do that to begin with? Starting with searching here! There's a sticky about what oil to use, for cryin' out loud!

Our likelihood of assisting in the future can be negatively affected by a poor attitude in response to previous replies. Word to the wise.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just wanted a simple answer like you gave me (thank you for that), not told go read a book. One of the points of a forum is for people who don't know asking people who do know. Avoiding wasting time flipping through pages. And now that I think about it, I don't have a book, not one book.

Searching will provide you with hundreds, if not thousands, of personal opinions about oil weight in E36s.

On a related note:

Wait.....you wanted a PERSONAL OPINION from a bunch of anonymous forum members, which you know nothing about the care they give to their rides, versus the specifications given by the engineering team that designed the system?

And this is why we make fun of Arkies.

That stickied thread about oil for E36s is FULL of personal opinions. In fact, 90% of it is just that. But you'd have to read it. Too much trouble, I guess.

My personal opinion, which I think I've posted before, is to use 20W-50 or 15W-50 year-round, either Royal Purple or Mobil 1. If someone local had Amsoil, I'd try it, too.

And what exactly does that mean? See if I let you drive the 7.....

Actually I probably should go through and make a new one with some information cleaned up and less editorial.
