Door Slots Question

What's this for and should there be a cover or insert? If yes, where can I get a couple?

Thanks

Bill

Check on the other side to be sure but there should be a small plastic coverplate that says "AIRBAG". Any dealer or online parts store should be able to order it

I believe part #23 here

Any ideas on why these covers break? On the driver's door, I'm lucky if an AIRBAG cover last 2 years. Most of them break yearly during the winter. Somehow the joint where the tab meets the cover gets stressed and breaks.

The original AIRBAG cover is still on the passenger door.

A trivial thing, but not understanding why the covers break bugs me.

It's in a spot where it gets kicked/bumped as you enter/exit the car.
