Buying a Spoiler

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a rear spoiler from spoilerfactory.com. It's basically $200 painted and shipped.

My question to you all is would you go this route? Or would you buy it unpainted and have it painted and installed locally?

Let me know how you like it, I am in the market also.

Depending on the age of your paint and what brand paints they use sometimes the shade might be a little off.

I'm with you on this one. The only thing that worries me is that on eBay there is one for 189 and another for 489. Both painted and even the same picture. So what's the difference?

Then I see the one you are talking about I believe and it says that you have to drill holes in the trunk. M not real keen on doing that to the trunk lid. Are planning on drilling or something else?

Good catch, definitely not drilling. Was planning on installing with the double sided tape.

I went eBay's route for a trunk spoiler years ago and I did not like it. I firmly believe in the: You get what you pay for.

Best price for a B7 rear spoiler:

http://www.getbmwparts.com/parts/ind...&siteid=214672
$355.44 + Free shipping.

I would get the B7 Alpina spoiler OEM. You can't go wrong unless you prefer another style.

Absolutely agree. Screw those cheap knock-offs. 100K+ cars we are talking about here.

I completely agree on going OEM, it's just I prefer the look of the ACS style lip spoiler to the Alpina.

On a side note, I stopped by a couple body shops getting quotes on paint. One for $300, one for $400 and the 3rd shop didn't want to even attempt it unless the spoiler was purchased thru them.

$300 to paint an ACS style spoiler is too much.

I did some more research and saw pics of the 750li with a rear spoiler and frankly I didn't like any of them with the spoiler. They actually thought the spoiler cheapened the look of the car. I decided against the spoiler.

Agreed. BTW, no way would I be drilling any holes in my trunk lid!

No drilling, just 3M tape.

Finally installed today. I waited until I had the car washed. Color is spot on..

Probably don't really need to but I'm gonna leave it taped overnight so it doesn't lift anywhere.
