2013 X5 35D - New Engine?

Hi all,

First post, but I've been lurking for awhile.

I just placed an order this weekend for a 2013 X5 35D, but as I was making the deal, one of the sales guys told my sales rep that the engine was going to be changing in 2013 and I probably wasn't going to get what I ordered, although "it wouldn't be any worse and might even be better." Of course they had no idea about specs, etc.

There is one post from these boards from back in July saying the 2013s would get new engines and the 8 speed, but everything on BMWs site still points to the same engine/tranny.

Thoughts? I find it very odd that the salespeople would be telling me I might be getting a different engine even though the spec sheet clearly shows the same 2012 engine/tranny.

I have a 2013 diesel that should arrive in the next few weeks. Specs say it has a 6-speed. Everything else I've seen points to no major changes. The 2014 will be very different...entirely new model.

No... it's the same one. We've discussed this at great length. Next gen X5 is getting US-Spec N57 with 8 speed in a couple years.

Really?

I find it odd that people think salesmen know WTF they are talking about. The just blather and hope you sign something.

You would think most BMW salespeople would get savvy, read some of the forums, get learned in what they're selling VS letting the enthusiasts have all the fun discovering all this info.

(Corrected since there are SOME that are in-tune and in-touch with what's going on from the company they represent. Thx for pointing my over generalization Dirtbag. )

I think throwing sales people into the same bag is not right; there are people in sales out there that study the line of vehicles they sell and are very knowledgable - the trick is finding one! Just my 2 cents!!

I do find that sales people that participate in the forums and blogs are much better informed , as they would have to be ,,,can you imagine a sales person stating something like that on here ?...
